What is it?: A continuation of the themes and ideas set up in the fan favorite episode of What If? The planet is ravaged by zombies, and the few remaining heroes are left to fend for themselves, while also trying to unite and save what remains of the world. Having lost a chunk of their friends already, those left behind continue to decrease in numbers. But, if Kamala Kahn can get her device to space to signal the Nova corps, we might just find a way. Or…

What Works: It isn’t exactly what I would have wanted or hoped for out of this series, because it picks up where the What if episode left off, and as a result many heroes already died. There’s a contingent online that has done nothing but bitch and moan about these new characters, claiming that diversity and inclusivity is destroying the fabric of Marvel. these younger heroes are an interesting way to keep the franchise moving forward, picking up where others left off. The series is definitely led by Kamala Kahn, whose Miss Marvel character has been met with mixed feelings. Ultimately, over the four episodes, she has the most to do, and is the central character at the heart of it all.

I knew we were in for a really dark show when out of the blue one of the young Avengers is vaporized. Following that is a simple road trip plot that mirrors a video game, where Kamala shows up at different Marvel sites, and gets to recruit some from that area to help continue her mission, and others die in combat.Eventually, she’s got a ragtag gang of next-gen heroes that I was surprised to see, and also not sure how they would stop the Queen of the Dead, Scarlet Witch, who is looking to absorb the powers of the infinity stones.

The creators doing press have mentioned the possibility of doing another season, and the material is there. With X-Men, Fantastic Four, and some upcoming characters either returning or getting their own shows.

By far, the coolest piece of fan service has to be Blade Knight.the only disappointment here is the realization that we won’t be seeing Moon Knight return anytime soon, and they had a missed opportunity to let Mahershala Ali at least voice Blade in this universe. I don’t know if his Blade will ever get off the ground, but I know he could have filled in for the random voice actor selected to replicate him.

As cool as Blade Knight is, I wanted more episodes, and a broader development, more like The Last Of Us. Instead, this is jumping to the part in World War Z and they are essentially a horde already climbing the walls.

the Audio description: Basically at the end of Episodes 2 and 3 there’s a bit of escaping that happens, and it kind of made me always realize I wasn’t sure who had survived. The gore is well described, but there’s just so much happening, it becomes hard to follow everything. On top of the zombies, we have superhero powers to consider. Jedidiah Barton did a nice job with the track though, so I’m not mad, just occasionally confused.

Why You Might Like it: It’s Marvel Superheroes in a Zombie timeline. I mean, what isn’t there to at least peak your curiosity?

Why You Might Not Like It: Just simple Marvel burn out. this year, we’ve had three theatrical titles, three live action Disney Plus series, and this is the third Animated Marvel offering. So if you are a bit exhausted, I understand.I punter that this is also not the worst of those nine projects.

Final Thoughts: Marvel Animation offers yet another twist on the heroes we know, but this one is delightfully brutal and bloody, setting itself apart from nearly everything else in the roster. Plus, an inspired twist on a character is likely to have you wishing he too could get a spinoff series of some kind.
