The Small Screen Diaries: 04/15/2026

Still looking at feedback moving forward on The Small Screen Diaries. I know some may be reading it in their mailbox, but if the audience has nearly evaporated, I’d like to figure out how to get that back or do something more productive, like review an entire season all at once instead of spreading out the love. I have no intention of changing before May though.

CBS also recently announced their fall lineup, with predictable cancellations for Watson and DMV. Everything else is coming back, but Matlock is being pushed to midseason. Ghosts is also being shifted to midseason, but will have a one-hour Halloween special, and also a one-hour Christmas special before Season 6 officially starts. They are expanding the NCIS franchise, returning LL cool J and pairing him with Scott Caan in NCIS: New York.

TV Shows Watched: Daredevil: Born Again: S2E5 (Disney Plus) with audio description, The Testaments: S1E4 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Company Retreat: S1E2 (Amazon) with audio description, Rick And Morty: S7E8 (HBO MAX) with audio description, SNL: Connor Story (Peacock) with audio description

Daredevil- The AD here is excellent.I’d say my favorite chunk was Daniel’s reaction to his predicament, sitting in the car, debating about whether or not to run for his life. The show did introduce us to some really lovely beats between Wilson and Vanessa, and had a wonderful Foggy recap that revealed he had a moral compass long before Matt did. No Jessica Jones or Punisher.

The Testaments- Told from Daisy’s perspective, she comments on the ritual of the Greens, and how courtship works, while also trying to get out of dodge. Mayday seems to be dropping like flies, and she’s a little freaked out. Agnes has something happen to her that dramatically alters her arc, which happened to Becca in the book (at least a variation of it did). How Agnes moves forward is a huge question mark.Nice audio description, especially capturing Daisy’s fear, though her scene with her radio was written for idiots. We’ve already seen her use the radio before, we know what it is for, and what she listens to. we didn’t need her to be present at the exact moment it went off air. Her reaction to a dead airwave would have been enough.

Company Retreat- This AD team is swimming upstream. They were trying to not overly describe the fleshlight joke, and I was honestly wondering what they found in Kevin’s room, as everyone reacted to it, and it took a hot second to give us anything. Even then, what we get has to be supplemented through dialogue, connecting the dots. I don’t know why this show, which is like one elaborate prank, does interviews with the actors in character. Why?

Rick And Morty- Still hadn’t finished the season. This one deals with multiple Jerry’s across the multiverse. The AD here was great, especially in the chase sequence across dimensions, as it tried to give us some context on each variant as we breezed through.

SNL- cold open was great. Some of the sketches worked well. I even enjoyed the Maid Of Honor gag during weekend update. Everything was described well, from the leg extension sketch, to the tutoring sketch, each eccentricity popped. I also find it endearing when the narrator has a hard time keeping themselves from laughing, since this is SNL. They are using what was at one time live audio description.

Say Something!
