TV Shows Watched: Star Wars: Maul: Shadow Lord: S1E5 (Disney Plus) with audio description, The Count Of Monte Cristo: S1E5 (PBS) with audio description, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen: S1E8 (Netflix) with audio description, Tracker: S3E11 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, and XO Kitty: S3E1 (Netflix) with audio description
Maul: Shadow Lord- The first episode that would cause any decline in my grade. The show has had a bit of an Andor vibe up until this point, and the title is Inquisition, yet the two interrogation sequences happen off screen. It would have been far more interesting to see at least one of them. The description is still solid, and overall the series has been engaging, but it is hard to not notice a missed opportunity.
The Count Of Monte Cristo- Such a classic novel, and it has been so long since I’ve seen an adaptation of it that I’m genuinely concerned about Edmund’s fate in each moment. Will he be found out? He’s clearly trying to preserve the lives of some of the younger cast, who are not at fault here, like Albert.Media Access is doing some nice work on the audio description.
Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen- But something good happpened as well. The series ended. Huzzah!
Tracker- This was the resolution to the episode where Colter Shaw helped out an old friend, whose partner had gotten caught up in something. Part 1 ended with the guy incapacitated, which he remained for most of the second part, leaving colter to figure shit out on his own. Also, media Access, and the same narrator as The Count Of Monte Cristo.
XO Kitty- Finally starting the third season. Whence last we left off, kitty was thinking about her feelings for Min-Ho, and in the premiere, they all go to this big party where things go awry, Min-Ho’s father thinks Kitty is a distraction and tells her, but Min-Ho has been waiting for Kitty to reveal her feelings. When they finally get there, the series takes a page from Heartbreaker, and she glows or something. But, plot twist! Kitty got a call, and she has another crisis, which may prevent her from joining Min-Ho on tour! Descriptive Video Works did lovely AD here, employing different narrators to do the primary narration, and the translation of the subtitles. Always a plus in my book. It’s even better when you can manage a male and female voice to help with conversations.
