From- Man, a lot happened, and the AD team had no idea what the fuck to do. I wasn’t entirely sure how tall the dolls were in comparison, because when they first encounter them, it isn’t like they stand them up. Then, shit hits the fan, and I felt like maybe they were bigger than I thought? There certainly was a lot to describe here, and in moments, it was great. That first red shirt death was well described. Meanwhile, Jay goes on a walkabout to figure out the past, Henry sang the saddest rendition of Leaving On A Jet Plane in a scene that should (but won’t) get him an Emmy nomination, and Marielle has some flashbacks she’s not a fan of. So, we find out what’s in the lake, and Jay also gets some answers.
The Unchosen- Trapped in a weird religious cult, and your only potential way out is this strange man who saved your daughter, but also is a wanted criminal. I’m not deeply enthused by the show, but I’ll keep it going, slowly. The audio description is done by Adrenaline Studios, if I remember correctly. Feels about right, since I don’t have anything really to say good or bad about it.
Invincible- Basically, Invincible has qualms about partnering again with Walton Goggins’s character, but they need him, and really they need each other, as Eve’s losing her powers for some strange reason. Solid audio description.
Shelved- Peacock has been thrusting this on me for months now, so I finally broke down and checked it out. Sadly, no audio description, but it was lovely. It’s one of those workplace comedies, but the workplace is a library. Sadly, this show aired in Canada a few years ago on CTV, and was cancelled after one season. No idea why it’s having a moment, but if it had audio description, I’d recommend it. Also, I was mistaken yesterday, Stumble didn’t end at 10 episodes. It had more, so I’m not done! I thought they were just ending on a cliffhanger of sorts.
The Predator Of Seville- Finished this docuseries, and the third episode is basically how this all finishes. Do the girls get justice? An oddly fantastic series I wasn’t expecting, and I hope all these ladies are recovering, and lead super wonderful lives now. They deserve it. The audio description here is pretty solid, for a mostly talking head doc, though it does have interviews with people who don’t speak English, so they use another voice instead of just using the same voice for everything, and it is appreciated.
Celebrity Jeopardy- Pointless audio description. If I was sitting down with another blind person, and they were like “oh, let me just flip on AD for this….”, I’d tell them not to bother. It almost never describes anything meaningful, and it is clearly a TTS voice, and one of the older ones. There are better TTS voices out there, and this series sounds worse than the voices I have on my Siri and Alexa (and any AI assistant). We’ve evolved, and this AD company is still using chisel and stone tablets.
