The Odyssey took up so much of my day, so this list is a bit light for the second day in a row. Mea culpa.
TV Shows Watched: The Westies: S1E3 (MGM Plus) with audio description,The Hawk: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, Top Chef: Top 4 (Peacock) with audio description, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed: S1E6 (Apple) with audio description, Pop Culture Jeopardy: S2E12 (Netflix) with audio description, and Breaking Bad: S4E5 (Netflix) with audio description
The Westies- With one of their own on the line, the Irish have to figure out how to level the playing field, so Sweeney gains favor by having his men take care of a Discoteca that the Colombians are using as a front for drug trafficking. Because, the mafia at this time is into everything but drugs, much to John Gotti’s chagrin. Nice audio description. I did like the little shot of Mikey at the end smiling with bloody teeth. Nice touch.
The Hawk- A wonderful cast, weak audio description, and a show that should make me laugh a lot more. Honestly, I thought Jimmy Tatro was better than Will Ferrell this episode. I’m unfortunately not that impressed.
Top Chef- I’ve been calling her She-Ra, since I’ve heard this voice do so much narration without ever being credited. I’m not sure if it is even a human at this point. But She-Ra, is back here helping to finish out Top Chef in the penultimate season episode where four become three. Pretty basic. Functional audio description at best.
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed- love this show, though I wonder if Jake Johnson was the best casting choice here. Tatiana Maslany is slaying it though, and the cliffhanger at the end of six is a doozie. Now what?
Pop Culture Jeopardy- Another episode down, and I couldn’t think of T-Pain to nail that. I went with Flo Rida. At least I knew TI was from Atlanta and had the smarts to not go with that.
Breaking Bad- Excellent audio description as Walt continues to see the world around him as dangerous, but damn man. His ego gets in the way. There’s a scene between him and Hank where Skylar is giving him side eye, and I felt it. I could hear her thinking “this fucking guy”. Great audio description.
The Best: Breaking Bad
The Worst: Top Chef? I’m not sure it can ever be great, but I think it can be a lot better than it is if NBC/Universal/Peacock commissioned from better AD houses.
