The Small Screen Diaries- 05/04/25

Woke up this morning to find out that Il Douche has decided to reopen Alcatraz as a functional prison, which I’ve been there, and it is not. So, of course, now I have to watch the Rock. He also likely had the same thought, remembered The Rock, said “why don’t they make them like they used to?”, and then put a 100% tariff on International cinema. I still have no idea what that even means functionally, as to where the tariff would be applied, or how co-productions work. TV Shows Watched: Jurassic World: Chaos Theory-S3E5 (Netflix) with audio description, Etoile: … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 05/04/25

WINNER: The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu) with audio description- Regaining the top spot after ripping the rug out from underneath June is the final season of this excellent Hulu show. It helps that once again … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- The Weekly Rankings

Flight Risk

This is kind of a terrible film. it just is, on so many levels, and none of them have to do with the politics around director Mel Gibson. it’s impossible, truly, to look at this film, and watch Braveheart, and somehow think that Mel Gibson is directing anywhere near the competency level he had. Even The passion Of The Christ and Apocalypto are better made films than this. Flight Risk feels like a film that Renny Harlin might have made to try and revive his career. This film definitely has audio description, and I’d recommend it for all the odd … Continue reading Flight Risk

Bridget Jones: mad About The Boy

Now that it has been a few months since the release of the fourth Bridget Jones movie, I feel like I can address the elephant in the room. So, watch out for spoilers. Just a few days ago I started publishing a list of how my year in film has been going so far, and my current slotted Best Actress was Renee Zellweger for this film. That should answer any lingering questions you have ahead of spoilers as to whether or not I would recommend this. truth be told, I didn’t think the previous sequels offered much to the continued … Continue reading Bridget Jones: mad About The Boy

The Small Screen Diaries- 05/02/25

CBS just made the final call from their list of shows that required a decision for the fall 2025 season, and they have decided to cancel The Equalizer after five seasons. This is definitely a little surprising, since they also had in development a spinoff for LL Cool J, which they eventually did not move forward with either. I’m not terribly surprised, and I haven’t been paying attention to the future of Watson, but I hope they didn’t keep that god awful show in favor of this. TV Shows Watched: The Righteous Gemstones: S4E8 (MAX) with audio description, Andor: S2E6 … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 05/02/25

Kinda Pregnant

Amy Schumer is a talented comic. i remember her from all the way back during her Last Comic Standing phase. She seems either deeply unable to match herself to meaningful projects, or no one knows how to write or direct for her. She had a really strong hit in Trainwreck, which made us all believe she could anchor her own films and become the next big female lead in comedy, but that goodwill has been squandered several times. Now, she’s trapped in a Happy Madison production, and is dragging Will Forte and Damon Wayans jr along for the ride. Amy Schumer … Continue reading Kinda Pregnant

Going In Blind: Change Not Charity and Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story

As I catch up on reviews,I’m actually glad I hadn’t gotten to these two documentaries yet. I woke up this morning to find out that President Trump, in his infinite wisdom, has decided to defund NPR and PBS.Apparently, they are getting too political for his taste. Really? PBS is getting political? When? During Antiques Roadshow? Nova? All Creatures Great And Small? Does he just not like things he doesn’t understand? The two films I name checked above I watched both through the PBS app, which does not require a subscription, and supports audio description. Talk about serving the public good. … Continue reading Going In Blind: Change Not Charity and Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story

Going In Blind: The year So Far (May Edition)

I see a lot of other critics updating lists of what they are watching all the time. Since I started doing weekly rankings of my TV watchlist, i figured it was only fair to keep tabs on my film viewings as well. I have currently seen 92 films released in the year 2025, and I have not seen Sinners. So the list below may seem shocking if you think Sinners is the answer to every question. So, as of today, with 92 films under my belt, here’s where my rankings stand. Best Picture: The Parenting- I mentioned I loved this … Continue reading Going In Blind: The year So Far (May Edition)

Thunderbolts*

I would easily claim to self-identify as a comic book nerd, especially when it comes to Marvel. As a kid, which is likely when a lot of people fall in love with comics, I had the time to invest in a lot of these heroes. Granted, there was always a tier, with X-Men and their various spinoffs being at the top, but followed by basically every other Marvel hero to some extent that existed in the 90’s. I remember having Spider-Man comics, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and even I think I got a Loki one. But, somehow, the gaggle of heroes … Continue reading Thunderbolts*

Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera

While Jason Statham seems to get a lot of unfair flack for basically playing himself in every film, Gerard Butler has also seemingly tossed away the notion of playing different versions of himself, and now just largely focuses on relatively mid-budget action films that rely on the negligible star power he apparently still offers. Since he’s already “Fallen’ three times, which feels like a lot for that franchise, we’re pivoting to a sequel to Den Of Thieves. This time, Nick (Butler) is going to get his man Donnie (O’Shea Jackson Jr.), assuming they don’t want to have another den full … Continue reading Den Of Thieves 2: Pantera

Delicious

Netflix is constantly importing their international content for American audiences, and they seem to pick and choose what gets audio description and what doesn’t, even if the film has no profile other than the one Netflix is giving it. This is true of the repulsive delicious, a film misguided on every level, that revels in its sadistic intentions, and ultimately fails to even deliver on that promise. It may claim to be one of the more shocking films you could watch, but having seen films like Bones And All, I’d beg to differ. Delicious is basically about a family that … Continue reading Delicious
