The Small Screen Diaries: 12/15/25

TV Shows Watched: It: Welcome To Dairy: S1E8 (HBO MAX) with audio description, Tulsa King: S3E10 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Nobody Wants this: S2E4 (Netflix) with audio description, Loot: S3E7 (Apple TV) with audio description Welcome To Dairy- This show has been obsessively and graphically violent, very gory, and brilliantly described. My review of it might contain a bit more than this, but the scene with the Principal, for example, had to walk a fine line. It couldn’t reveal the whole thing up front, but it was pretty obvious what it was. They announced the series is getting a physical … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 12/15/25

The Small Screen Diaries: 12/14/25

I’m shocked and horrified this morning at the senseless murder of Rob and Michelle Reiner. An unbelievable tragedy. TV Shows: The Chair Company: S1E5 (HBO MAX) with audio description, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch: S1E5 (Netflix) with audio description, Devil In Disguise: S1E3 (Peacock) with audio description, and Starting Five: S2E? (Netflix) with audio description The Chair Company- I still don’t love the show, but it has some darkly comedic beats that work for it. They did bring up ADA requirements this episode, though I think the best gag was the joke where the character talked about arriving for a job, and … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 12/14/25

Going In Blind: tapawingo

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. I typically watch films with audio description. There is no known description for this film. The audacity. I often just get a screener, and I watch it. I don’t always get press notes, and i don’t always know what I’m watching. So, I got Tapawingo, and jumped in figuring it needed my consideration at this time of year. I found myself sitting there, wondering in 2025 who would have the audacity. It isn’t just one audacious item either. there’s first the audacity of making this film, and it being basically “What if Drillbit Taylor … Continue reading Going In Blind: tapawingo

TV Shows Watched: Boots: S1E? (Netflix) with audio description, The Diplomat: S3E2 (NEtflix) with audio description,The Beatles Anthology: S1E2 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Elzabeth: S3E? (Paramount Plus) with audio description Boots- I’m loving this. I hope Netflix gives it another season. This episode, for anyone wondering where I am, had Ray find out what Cameron did “for him”, and the gang gets to watch Ghostbusters II. One of the recruits exits the show. Nice audio description. They do a lot with Cameron, and his inner thought personified, and the description around that is handled well in what could be … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 12/13/25

Still have not located the missing key. TV Shows Watched: South Park: S28E4 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Celebrity Weakest Link: S1E9 (Hulu) no audio description, Abbott Elementary: S5E7 (Hulu) with audio description, The Sisters Grimm: S1E5 (Apple TV) with audio description South Park- The plus side to being late is getting the audio description. For this episode, it made all the difference. the show had this Turkey race, which was a send up of America kissing up to Saudi Arabia, and it featured a lot of lesser used South Park characters all competing for their chance. Characters you don’t … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 12/12/25

Apple Celebrates Accessibility By Dodging it?

http://www.apple.com/accessibility/designed-for-students/ Because, why not? Apparently this ad has created a conversation piece in the disability community. I can’t speak to or for every disability, but I can speak toward the audio description, which in its effort to include all in all its inclusive glory misses the access point by a half mile. I say a half mile, because half of the thing is described. For whatever reason, despite there being no actual dialogue in this circle jerk, the audio description decides there are times when things are happening… but we just don’t need to know about them. Isn’t that the … Continue reading Apple Celebrates Accessibility By Dodging it?

Blind People Problems: losing something small, and having no clue which direction it even went. Somewhere in this room is the I key to my keyboard. In the meantime, I’m typing and hitting the hole where it used to be. Life truly is a grand adventure. TV Shows Watched: Squid Game: The Challenge: S2E2 (Netflix) with audio description, I Love LA: S1E2 (HBO MAX) with audio description, SNL: Glen Powell (Peacock) with audio description, Matlock: S2E? The Small Screen Diaries: 12/10/25

Death By Lightning- S1E1 (Netflix) wit audio description- So I wanted to jump in on this, because i was waiting to go through this journey with you until the Small Screen Diaries returned. There have been complaints online about the audio description for the show, and it incorrectly labeling people. I’ve certainly heard that before, and when I read someone’s account of it, I noticed the company involved was one of the constant offenders in low quality audio description.I’ll say from my perspective, the first episode already didn’t make sense to me. there’s an entire president between Grant and Garfield. … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 12/10/25

I’m telling you. Y’all. I know this is sad. I’m not even listing at the top, because the amount of shows is just so low. Boston Blue- Not sure what episode this was, but it dealt with parents being accountable for something horrific their teenager does. If that helps. I’m not crazy about the show, but I watch with someone else who liked Blue bloods. Even with that, I don’t think this show is going to stay on my radar for very long. It does have a stellar cast which keeps me engaged. I’m a fan of sonequa Martin-Green, and … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 12/09/25

Good Fortune

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. Are you not entertained? I missed the gig economy life. I often wonder, had I not lost my vision, would I have joined the masses in picking up food, groceries, or driving strangers around?Aziz Ansari has also missed out on this phenomenon, as he has been well known as a stand-up for years, with Parks and Recreation really boosting his career in 2009. I doubt he did much gig work before, but likely worked enough part time jobs to understand the struggle is real. We’re the same age, and by 2009 I had already worked … Continue reading Good Fortune

The Small Screen Diaries: 12/08/25

So, I didn’t announce this was going away, I just reached a day with no TV. Then another day. I’ve been so inundated with movie screeners and voting deadlines, I stopped watching most TV. You did not miss much. The only two shows I kept up with were Welcome To Dairy and Stranger things. There are still several shows I haven’t seen. Welcome To Dairy- I think I’ve gotten the chance to thank the team behind this, because their description is excellent. From Pennywise casually munching on some heads, to some grotesque specters haunting our psychic, everything is really gory, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 12/08/25

All The Empty Rooms

Disclaimer: I’m a blind film critic. Huzzah! Everything felt so entirely different back when I was a kid. I often think the innocence lost of the kids that came after is a result of apathy from those who somehow prioritize anything over their kids, while also trying to act like they don’t. Case in point, our complete and abject inability to do a damn thing regarding school shootings. I never had an active shooter drill in my day. i simply just saw Columbine happen, and remembered the shock that something like that could happen. then it happened again, and again. … Continue reading All The Empty Rooms

(Netflix) with audio description. Boots- Why do I feel like the character who is trying to decide whether or not to reenlist secretly had a gay relationship, and in this don’t ask don’t tell world, is trying to pretend like nothing happened and move forward? But basically Cameron … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 11/06/25
