The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/26/23
Paramount Plus is purging again. This time, I won’t be burned by saying everything has already been removed. The biggest cancellation/removal is Inside Amy Schumer. The rest are some documentaries, Paramount Plus original movies (Snow Day and Fantasy Football), and a bunch of Nickelodeon shows, only two of which I had even heard of. No 90’s content except Allegra’s Window sounded familiar. 10) Family Matters (MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Ended Nothing really was wrong here, except Laura sold the wrong quilt, and had to get it back. It was very dramatic. Episode Grade: B 9) 911 (Hulu) English … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/26/23

I happened to stumble on a show I’ve been checking semi-frequently on audio description, and I found out that Yellowjackets (Season 1) now has AD. this was a show I had started, but didn’t finish. I’m starting over on it. See where it landed in the rankings below. 13) The Family Stallone (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed If Sly wasn’t in this, I wouldn’t watch it. There was one with some of the members of Clint Eastwood’s family a while back, and i didn’t care, because the main reason wasn’t in it. Here, this is supposedly a … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/25/23

American Pain
Where I Watched It: HBO MAX English Audio Description?: Yes I believe this was a Sundance acquisition. I’m not sure if the early release date reflects how they feel about its chances on actually getting an Oscar nomination for Documentary feature, but in a year full of documentaries about celebrities, at least this wasn’t that. However, in a world where we keep seeing shows and movies centered around the opioid epidemic, I almost wonder if this did what it needed to. Last year, I was disappointed by All The Beauty and the Bloodshed, because it was much more of the … Continue reading American Pain

A couple of things. First, I have not properly given a shoutout to Tubi, which is now offering a select number of titles with audio description. This is their first month, and they already have surpassed AMC Plus. Hah. I do plan on watching something from them soonish to support their new offerings, and give a review on how easy it is to access it. You can find a list of titles where you can find all the lists of titles for all the streaming services. The Audio Description project: adp.acb.org Second, congrats to Bupkus on a second season renewal. … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/24/23
Creed 3
Where I Watched It: Amazon English Audio Description?: Yes i had heard some truly terrific things about Creed 3 heading into my chance to see it, so the bar was high. I didn’t factor Jonathan Majors personal life into the film, because movies are a collection of the work of hundreds of people, and we have to stop doing that. There are plenty of people who do stunts, costumes, sound design, set design, and hell, just plain old production assistant work, who deserve to show their job to the world without everyone feeling like they can’t watch it because of … Continue reading Creed 3

Yesterday, i did attend another panel at the American Council Of The Blind’s virtual conference, this one on TTS audio description. I still squeezed in a lot of shows, because it was shorter, and most of these are half hour shows. Also, in TV News! Melissa McBride has reportedly rejoined the Daryl/Carol spinoff, instead of taking a break. or maybe she just didn’t need a long break. NBC also announced that the second half of Magnum PI’s 5th season (which they rescued), will be its last. Then, Paramount Plus said HOLD MY BEERR! They promptly cancelled 4 shows, and immediately … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/23/23
My Ten biggest Takeaways From The Audio Description Panel
Yesterday, I passively attended a panel sponsored by the American Council of the Blind through their Audio Description Project on what they are all doing as streamers. in attendance were reps from Apple, Amazon, Disney (for both Disney Plus and hulu), MAX, Netflix, Paramount Plus, and peacock. The event was hosted by Carl Richardson, who has the temperament necessary to get these people to come back to the table each year. I do not. That’s why I’m over here, speaking my own thoughts, not endorsed or working for ACB/ADP. Of course, i have some thoughts. In my YouTube video, where … Continue reading My Ten biggest Takeaways From The Audio Description Panel
Avatar: The Way Of Water
Where I Watched it: Disney Plus English Audio Description provided By: Deluxe Narrated By William michael Redmond I swear these films need a companion piece for the blind community that describes Pandora in extreme detail. The reason being is that the world is all make believe. There’s really nothing based in reality here, except for the concept of humans. The tech used in the film is futuristic, the ships are a pipe dream, and the Na’vi are living in a world far removed from our own. While the audio description really is trying to always mention as much of it … Continue reading Avatar: The Way Of Water
The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/22/23
Yesterday, I had the awesome opportunity to attend a panel at the American Concil of the Blind’s virtual conference presented by the Audio Description Project that featured reps from the major streaming services, all of whom came to talk about just how committed they are, without actually putting a number on that commitment. I’m committed to cleaning my room. When? How often? I’m committed. So I didn’t watch as many shows. But on the plus side, hulu is moving forward with a second season of nine Perfect Strangers, which should be fun since they already used all the strangers from … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/22/23
40 For 40: Favorite TV Shows
Unlike with the movies, even though I also have a list of favorite TV shows that goes beyond 40, I’m choosing shows for a brief mention. These are the 40 shows that I feel like most represent my taste, and have influenced my life in some way. Since i like to wait and not name a show that just premiered, a lot of these shows will be older titles, which means some may not even be streaming, let alone have audio description. But, some do. 1) The Walking Dead (AMC) I frequently cite this show as my favorite of all … Continue reading 40 For 40: Favorite TV Shows
Flaming Hot
Where I Watched it: Disney plus English Audio Description?: yes Sometimes, with streaming films there is a vibe that they were either picked up at a festival, or at least developed with the intention of possibly going theatrical. Prey is a great example of this. It truly had a cinematic feel, despite debuting on Hulu. But, Flaming hot feels like one of those inspirational true stories that popped up during the Wonderful World Of Disney, and was just fine. i think there was one with Tony Danza? Most of them blended together. If I had any idea as a high … Continue reading Flaming Hot

Today, i plan on attending a virtual conference held by the ACB and the Audio Description project, in which I will get to hear representatives from streaming services talk about their commitment to Audio Description. I’m a little intrigued by Paramount Plus/Showtime, but I’m super excited to hear Hulu talk about how ‘committed” they are. Girl, you can’t even get AD onto a Hulu original like The Clearing. Come on now. 14) Ripley (PBS) English Audio Description?: No? Status: I don’t care. Honestly, I sat down with my mom as she was trying to watch the first episode of this … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/21/23
40 For 40: 40 Of My Favorite Actors
Just like I’m rolling out reviews of 40 of my favorite films (that have audio description) after rewatching them, as part of my personal celebration of turning 40, it’s time to talk about the 40 actors who are most likely to get me to watch a film. Favorites. Not the best. There are people I respect, who are terrific talents, but they just don’t draw me in. obviously, I also like more than 40 actors, so a lot of the people on this list will also be here because they have been in several of my favorite things. So, in … Continue reading 40 For 40: 40 Of My Favorite Actors

Well, in a shocking turn of events, HBO is in talks to license some of its original content to Netflix. i have to believe that these are the lower tier titles. It’s actually not that weird. True Blood is on Hulu. So, if Netflix starts running Boardwalk Empire, Carnivale, or Six Feet under anytime soon, you’ll know why. No way will this extend to Game of Thrones. 7) XO Kitty (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed After the initial shock of not being familiar with the source material, seeing how Dae is trapped in this fake relationship he seems … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/20/23
