Romancing The Stone: 40th Anniversary

Romancing The Stone: 40th Anniversary- Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny Devito Quick Take: If I had a bucket list of films I knew I needed to watch for whatever reason, I would have had this Robert Zemeckis flick on there. It has been on there for 40 years, and it took an anniversary release for me to get off my ass and finally knock this one out. I think every film critic who isn’t claiming Medicare still has films. There were just so many years of film before I was born, and then every year, more is created. Still, before … Continue reading Romancing The Stone: 40th Anniversary

War Of The Roses: 35th Anniversary

War Of The Roses: 35th Anniversary- Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny Devito Quick Take: Both Romancing The Stone and War Of The roses hit anniversary years in 2024. The latter, directed by Danny Devito, is something I feel like I saw my mom watching once, tried about five minutes, and then it was over my head. As a kid, I really loved my kids centric fare, so I could have seen this anywhere from 1989-1993 and not understood or cared. Now, I see this as a nice reread for Michael Douglas and Kathleen turner. It isn’t the best. I think … Continue reading War Of The Roses: 35th Anniversary

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice- The Ghost With The Most Unnecessary Side Characters What was the last great Tim Burton movie? I think that is probably why so many years later, Tim Burton finally jumped on the legacy sequel train and made beetlejuice beetlejuice, which brings back a handful of original players and puts them in the mix with some new faces. Once again, despite the title, Michael Keaton is still not the star of this film. I will concede that he does feel somehow in more of this film than the original, which probably could have expanded even further if this was … Continue reading Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Migration

Illumination has struck again, much like the flock of geese struck that airplane Sully was flying. Migration is one of those animated films that follows the formula set by other films like it, but it isn’t sure where to make good choices. The end result is like playing Duck Hunt and missing all your shots. I skipped the theatrical release and waited for Peacock. I’m proud of that choice. Kumamoto Nanjiani plays the patriarch of a little duck family, with a wife (Elizabeth Banks), an uncle (Danny Devito) and two ducklings. He’s always been afraid his whole life of leaving … Continue reading Migration

Terms Of endearment

Continuing on my journey of watching Oscar films for the first time, a period I’ve come to call my shame period, I found Terms of Endearment. I found it without audio description, which is problematic, since this is a Best Picture winner. I’m of the belief that any Best Picture winner or film added to the National Film Registry should be required to have audio description. These are all cornerstones of cinema, even if in some cases we like films that didn’t win, or aren’t in the registry yet more. My thoughts on this include the fact that I didn’t … Continue reading Terms Of endearment

Haunted Mansion

Where I Watched It: Disney plus English Audio Description?: Yes I did approach the concept of yet another Hanuted Mansion film with trepidation. A lot of that was alleviated by the fact that Justin Simian would be behind the director’s chair. Not only was I a fan of the film Dear White People, but I also enjoyed the Netflix show inspired by it. I wasn’t sure how his satirical tone would mix with a Disney franchise, but I was mostly pleasantly surprised. This version of the haunted Mansion seems like it is trying to be a little scarier, with a … Continue reading Haunted Mansion

The Too Much TV Roundup- October 29th

A slow Saturday, but I still managed four shows and a movie. Here’s how those four shows laid out. 4) Little Demon (FXX/Hulu) English Audio Description?: no I think the most frustrating thing about this show isn’t the content, which I’m sure turned away viewers, it’s that because FX slacks on AD, or Hulu refuses to use it (who knows), this show doesn’t have it. So, all of the absolutely crazy stuff that happens, regarding demons or demons using abilities, or even our main girl using her powers, a lot of that visual stuff is 100% lost on me. I’m … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- October 29th
