The Substance

The Substance- I’ve Avoided It This Long….But It is Time Blindness is weird. Years ago, when I was sighted, I never could have made it through The Substance. I wasn’t a big gore fan, and this is one of the goriest films I’ve ever seen. But you’d be surprised what I can sit through now. I’ve seen so many films, which has really opened me up even more to the horror genre. Case in point, this year I finally tackled In The Mouth Of Madness. I watched In A Violent Nature. I have films in my top 25 that are … Continue reading The Substance

The Hill

Sadly, Netflix did not have an available audio description track for this at the time of my viewing, so this inspirational Dennis Quaid baseball drama is going to get the grade it gets. In general, 2023 produced a few well made faith based films that had some money thrown behind them. I’ve seen a lot of sub par ones like Kirk Cameron’s Saving Christmas that seem like they are barely films. The hill tells the true story of a kid who is born with skeletal problems, and spends his time in a brace. He loves baseball, and he wants to … Continue reading The Hill

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/06/24

The creative arts Emmys were last night, and some really interesting choices were made. Did your show win any of the below the line awards? Was your favorite guest actor or actress awarded a trophy? Also, the National Society of Film Critics (an aspirational group for me) named Past Lives as the film of the year, but my favorite pick of theirs was giving an honorable Mention to Rachel macadams for Are You There God, It’s me Margaret? I did think it was weird that Zone of Interest was the Best Picture honorable mention, won director, and was recognized as … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/06/24

Tonight is the special series finale for Archer, which means I’ll be waiting to see if this thing has audio description on Hulu the next day. Also, this week brings a new season of What If, as well as the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. 1) For All Mankind (Apple Plus) English Audio Description By: PixelLogic Narrated By: Darren Polish Status: Unknown Hell hath no fury like Ed after being fired. He’s very much going to be a thorn in Danielle’s side going forward. Also, Margo makes a tough choice to come an official traitor so she can … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/16/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/10/23

Today, the Golden Globes announce their nominations. Do I have any WILD predictions? Usually the Globes find a way of throwing love to new things, and acting like they are trendsetters. I noticed another critics group put him in their Best Actor list, so I actually gave Ramon Rodriguez a slot this year for Will Trent. That’s my boldest prediction on the TV side. If I get it right, I think I level up. 1) Blue Eye Samurai (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown I was thinking this would be a half hour anime, but this thing is an … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/10/23

NCIS has an Australian spinoff that is now slated to air in Primetime this fall. So, get ready for NCIS Sydney. No, I’m not joking. 10) 10) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Revival Just Ended This time it wasn’t just the shootouts that rendered this episode unwatchable, but also a car explosion. Did it kill anyone? It sounded like Neal McDonaugh was in a car, got out, and then it exploded. I would think he would be standing too close. But I don’t know, because this show is inaccessible. I’m just here to pick up as much of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/05/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/29/23

While not TV news, I am always looking around the inter webz for Oscar thoughts, and I do love the people predicting the Oscars who acknowledge that it’s weird that everyone is predicting the same things. I know, which is why I’m actually trying not to. This time last year, we had Tom Cruise and Hugh Jackman as frontrunners. Certainly no one expected Andrea Riseborough, and after everyone saw Blonde, it was assumed to be dead in the race. Brian Tyree Henry seemed like an impossible nominee, and most people still had Paul Dano. I don’t believe Michelle Williams declared … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/29/23

MAX is sticking with And Just Like That, picking up the series for a third season. Also, Paramount Plus confirmed that the show is coming this fall, and will at least have a brief linear appearance on CBS. 12) X-Men (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I hate seeing this show on the bottom, but narratively, they just got back from Genosha, and there was zero mention of Gambit. He never shows up to fight the episodes central villain Juggernaut, and instead we get Colossus, which is great. I love that big Ruskie. But, to act like Gambit … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/22/23

I saw a glimmer of TV news that reminded me that ABC’s limbo shows are all still in limbo. Decisions have not been made yet firmly on a second season of The Rookie Feds, a fourth season of Home Economics, or a first season of the Good Doctor spinoff The Good Lawyer. Technically, the only one whose cast is still held is The Rookie Feds, however, SAG has in their strike rules that when a strike occurs, deals like this that are in place essentially will give an extension of how many days were left at the time of the … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/15/23

The TV news cycle is really slow right now. The WGA met, and were made a counter offer that they are taking a look at. Sadly, they did not release the counter offer to the press. It’s possible that they believe there’s actually something to work with here. 13) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended It’s boys vs girls at the ranch, in an anything you can do I can do better storyline. It’s also Danny’s birthday. And this show has no audio description. Even though I watched this back when I was six or seven, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/11/23

For those of you who pay attention to relese dates, this is your heads up. Tomorrow, Season 3 of only Murders in The Building starts. 11) Dark Winds (AMC Plus) English Audio Description?: Red on, young man Status: Not Yet Renewed I had to start Dark Winds at the beginning. Of course, I looked for an alternative audio track, and instead of audio description, I got this “dialogue boost” offered. It’s certainly not the same thing, but I figured I’d at least try it out. It didn’t really seem to do much. Then, we got serious about the lack of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/06/23

Strange World

Where i Watched It: Disney plus English Audio Description Provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: Nicole Sansorella I basically live in a world where I just consume media, like a critic, whether I care about the film or not. I do draw the line every once in a while, like I have no intention of ever reviewing Terrifier 2, but I try my hardest to walk in with an open mind every time. I gotta say, i walked into Strange World assuming it sucked. It’s not the same way i chose Turning Red earlier this year, where I saw it immediately … Continue reading Strange World

American Underdog

Starring: Zachary Levi, Anna Paquin, Dennis Quaid, Adam Baldwin, and Bruce McGill. Directed By: The Irwin Brothers Where I Watched it: Hulu is offering it without audio description. So I circumnavigated that process, and found a way to watch it with audio description since I’m apparently paying for the right through my subscription to watch this film. One day, Hulu might care about accessibility. Someday. Description Provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: Jedidiah Barton The Plot: It’s the true story, or as close as you’ll ever get to it, of Kurt Warner (Levi) and his slow rise to football history, eventually … Continue reading American Underdog
