The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

As promised, I tackled Echo (Disney Plus), but just the first episode. I’m not a huge fan of the binge watch. I like to savor my shows, especially ones with only 5 episodes, and the next Marvel show is quite far off. I thought it was a strong start, but it didn’t break into the top echelon of Marvel shows for me, which really no one has ever topped WandaVision. Some critics have hailed it as what Marvel needs right now, and I say it could ahve been, if they had let Echo stand on her own in the pilot, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/06/24

The creative arts Emmys were last night, and some really interesting choices were made. Did your show win any of the below the line awards? Was your favorite guest actor or actress awarded a trophy? Also, the National Society of Film Critics (an aspirational group for me) named Past Lives as the film of the year, but my favorite pick of theirs was giving an honorable Mention to Rachel macadams for Are You There God, It’s me Margaret? I did think it was weird that Zone of Interest was the Best Picture honorable mention, won director, and was recognized as … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/06/24

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/12/23

Woke up to the tributes pouring in for Andre Braugher, who passed away at the age of just 61. He was such a brilliant actor, who could handle drama and comedy. I’m not going to lie and talk about how his performance on Homicide changed my life. I was young, and I never watched Homicide (or NYPD Blue for that matter). I think my favorite performance of his is as the Captain on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as the seemingly normal one, who as you continued on with the series learned more and more about how eclectic he really was to match … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/12/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/07/23 Dancing last night. Also, I hear we are shockingly close to a SAG deal as the studios have apparently given up on their AI battle.

11) Seaquest DSV (Peacock) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I think I’ve given a few episodes a pass, as it is a bit easier being on a rewatch. but this episode focused quite a bit on a ghost ship, a diary, and possession? I’ll admit, when you throw ghosts and what I can assume was possession in the mix, it goes a little past being easy to just follow along. Episode Grade: unwatchable 10) 911 (Hulu) English Audio Description?: no Status: Moving To ABC Athena is on the hunt for who killed a neighbor that everyone hated, while her … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/07/23 Dancing last night. Well, that was a lot faster the next time around. Amazon has picked up Good Omens for a third season, so hopefully the wait between Season 2 and 3 will be much less. 8) Krapopolis (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown I still wish this show had audio description, but this silly plot about dead goats was funny enough. I didn’t realize until this episode that Matt Barry was voicing a monster, because all i hear is Lazlo. Episode Grade: B 7) Heartstopper (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed? Some of the side characters had some plots, like … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/23/23

Tubi really does have some deep cuts in terms of shows they have that are no longer on the air. Check out what I found in the rankings below. 8) Name That Tune (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet Renewed Megan Hilty! That’s really all I needed. I wish the show skewed in her favor, and she had to guess something like Secondhand White Baby Grand from Smash. It didn’t happen. Episode Grade: B 7) 911 (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Moved To ABC This episode, S4E2, featured a catastrophe that kinda needed audio description, but once … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/04/23

There are a lot of articles out there about “When is my favorite show coming back?” Presumably, once the leadership passes the tentative agreement on, they will lift the restrictions while WGA members vote on whether or not to approve. Right now, the only thing that has stopped is picketing. Since they were not technically being struck to begin with, those daytime talk shows that faced backlash could likely return next week, including Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Hudson. Matt Walsh is expected to dance tonight on Dancing With The Stars. The next set to resume will be the late night … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/25/23

No big TV news, so I’ll use my intro spot to announce that Lily Gladstone, the one-time front runner for Best Supporting Actress, has now flipped and decided to run for Lead Actress. We now call this “Pulling a Michelle Williams.” Hopefully she dominates the movie, because she is now competing in films where the lead Actress is in a film clearly about them. 10) Alias (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I’m still saying that this show is too action oriented to not have audio description. However, the second episode did have more dialogue. And, if you … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/19/23

*NSYNC is back! That’s your entire news bulletin at the top. I know it’s short, but, they did record a new song for the next Trolls movie. Also, apparently they made another Trolls movie. 11) Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I don’t expect linear storytelling, but to sudddenly watch an episode where I guess the Rangers are on another continent, and their aircraft is being worshipped by flightless Kiwi birds really made me think how the hell they got there. Then the whole episode becomes about Dale stubbing his toe and being … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/13/23

Well, new seasons of Fargo and Chucky were both given fall premiere launch dates. So if the Networks are boring you to death with their strike filler, you can check those out. 10) Outlander (Starz) English Audio Description?: No Status: Final Season Still doing my Season 6 rewatch, and i remember being frustrated with the episode the last time. This is the one where Jamie believes he cheated on Claire while she was ill, and there’s a dead family from dysentery. There’s just a lot of stuff happening in this episode that doesn’t make sense to a blind viewer, and … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/17/23

The TV news cycle is really slow right now. The WGA met, and were made a counter offer that they are taking a look at. Sadly, they did not release the counter offer to the press. It’s possible that they believe there’s actually something to work with here. 13) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended It’s boys vs girls at the ranch, in an anything you can do I can do better storyline. It’s also Danny’s birthday. And this show has no audio description. Even though I watched this back when I was six or seven, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/11/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/30/23

It’s a slow news day, but you know how all the streaming services have these random films that didn’t do well at the box office, or were even theatrically released, and were made years ago? I wonder why we can’t have a streamer that does that just for TV shows? Think of how many shows you’ve seen over the years that had short runs, or perhaps aired years ago, and currently don’t appear on a streaming service, but it would be fun to revisit those shows. if I can revisit a crappy 90’s flop, I should be able to revisit … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/30/23

After a day of some interesting news, the best thing I’ve got for you this morning is that hulu has cancelled Up Here after 1 season. I didn’t even finish that show, so no love lost here. 12) Mulligan (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not yet Renewed When trying to figure out who lands on the bottom, every once in a while I run into the problem of watching too much TV, and not really remembering something. All i remember was Tina Fey’s character yelling at someone to be a dumbass, and the Senator character joking about how Spanish … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/28/23

I read that George RR Martin’s deal with HBo has been suspended, and I wonder why. Is he a member of the WGA? There’s another GOT show in early development, and i would think they’d still need him for house of The Dragon, which I last heard was still shooting in England. 13) Skull Island (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not yet Renewed This one for me just comes down to the voice cast, and what is this show trying to do, and what does it want to be? I felt that Jurassic World: camp Cretaceous managed to have … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/23/23

I’ve been deep diving a bit more into the SAG-AFTRA talks and some of the stuff they’re requesting isn’t unreasonable. Actually, none of it is. Just take some of these CEO salaries, lower them, and you’ll have the money to pay for some of this stuff. Also, for the poor people without cable or Peacock, Yellowstone is coming to CBS in the fall since they are a little short on new programming. Add to that, the UK version of Ghosts, which I’m at least interested in checking out.

12) 8 Simple Rules (Disney plus) English Audio Description?: No Sorry, this was a tough day to rank, and 8 Simple Rules just felt like it missed a mark the most. This episode had a solid reference to Three’s Company, but squandered the “kids out of the house” moment by not letting the adults actually have any meaningful time together. john Ritter’s time on the show was fleeting, and I can’t help but think this missed a mark to show that Paul and Kate were more than just parents. What made it worse was that Kate tried so hard to … Continue reading I’ve been deep diving a bit more into the SAG-AFTRA talks and some of the stuff they’re requesting isn’t unreasonable.
