I’ve been tracking this season on my Awards Tracker, but with the nominations coming tomorrow, I have to throw down my final “locks”. Who is in? Who is out?
BEST PICTURE:
Boyhood
Birdman
Gone Girl
The Imitation Game
Selma
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Theory Of Everything
Whiplash
and…
I think there’s one more nominee. I think Interstellar has lost some steam, and American Sniper has picked up steam. I’m going to say that American Sniper did what it needed to.
BEST DIRECTOR:
Richard Linklater- Boyhood
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu- Birdman
Ava DuVernay- Selma
Morten Tyldum- The Imitation Game
Wes Anderson- The Grand Budapest Hotel
I’m not going to be bold and predict another Whiplash nomination here. I think Ava Duvernay has done what she needed to to secure a rare female director nomination.
BEST ACTOR:
Michael Keaton- Birdman
Eddie Redmayne- Theory Of Everything
Benedict Cumberbatch- The Imitation Game
David Oyelowo- Selma
Jake Gyllenhaal- Nightcrawler
I’m guessing Steve Carell gets left off the list in favor of Gyllenhall. I will also acknowledge the possibility that Bradley Cooper takes the fifth spot for American Sniper.
BEST ACTRESS:
Julianne Moore- Still Alice
Reese Witherspoon- Wild
Rosamund Pike- Gone Girl
Felicity Jones- The Theory Of Everything
Jennifer Aniston- Cake
I think they’ll pick Aniston over Amy Adams for Big Eyes.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR:
JK Simmons- Whiplash
Edward Norton- Birdman
Mark Ruffalo- Foxcatcher
Ethan Hawke- Boyhood
Robert Duvall- The Judge
Everyone has the same five. Its like no one else is in the race.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS:
Patricia Arquette- Boyhood
Keira Knightley- The Imitation Game
Emma Stone- Birdman
Meryl Streep- Into The Woods
Tilda Swinton- Snowpiercer
You know what? I’m going to be bold and say Swinton surprises for the final spot.
