For some strange reason, we made a sequel to Hot Tub Time Machine, and we did so without John Cusack. It’s an odd choice, because you can tell the plot of the film is basically “OK, so John Cusack said no, so we need a new script ASAP.” I didn’t really hate the film, but it’s not as funny as the first (which wasn’t even that funny to begin with). It does have some clever moments, and a few chuckles.
A week ago I reviewed Ballers and I wondered if Rob Corddry gets tired of being an asshat in every role. He’s getting so good at being an asshole, I can’t imagine him ever being cast as something else. I’m not sure this film is really a good showcase for any of the talent involved, except maybe Clark Duke who doesn’t seem to get cast a lot. Cast Clark Duke more so he doesn’t have to do shit like this.
If you liked Hot Tub Time Machine 1, you’ll probably find 2 to be OK. If you didn’t like 1, you’ll hate 2. It only emphasizes the dumb shit.
FINAL GRADE: C-
The first one sucked too. And I hate John Cusack. I don’t even like the name ‘Cusack’. Or the name ‘John’. Or names.
