Starring: Bill Murray, Miley Cyrus, George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, Jenny Lewis
I’m not really sure what to think of this bizarre, unstructured Christmas special. I’m not sure if it’s a movie or a TV show. I don’t really know where to put it. I can tell you that A Very Murray Christmas will not be making it into my yearly cycle of Christmas special/movies that I enjoy during the holiday season. I oddly didn’t really enjoy most of it, except for the Baby It’s Cold Outside duet between Murray and Lewis. Clooney just pops in at the end, like a favor to Murray. Cyrus sings a few tunes. Chris Rock kind of sings a song.
It feels unscripted. Not really in a good way.
I didn’t think it was particularly funny, nor was I blown away by the music. Maybe that’s the point? Maybe it’s actually an “anti Christmas special”, to counter balance all the Michael Buble specials we get every year.
I’m sure someone will like this, but as a fan of Murray, I was disappointed. It felt lazy. It felt like a cash-in. And considering how consistent Netflix has been with their original content, they should have known better.
