Box Office Predictions: Mowgli and Ice Cube to Rule The Weekend

Three new releases are opening this weekend, and one of them is tracking very VERY well. Disney’s The Jungle Book has been doing really well in early tracking, suggesting it should outpace Cinderella this weekend. Cinderella opened to 67M, and Mowgli is tracking in the 75-80M range. I went on the low end, simply because Zootopia is still doing well, and there are other options still in theatres that aren’t doing so bad. Plus, Barbershop 3 is tracking to make about 30M this weekend. Both films have good scores on Rotten Tomatoes currently. Jungle Book is sitting pretty with a 95% certified fresh, and Barbershop 3 has 91% from 45 reviews. The weekends other new release, Criminal, couldn’t get critics on board, with a weak 24%. Still, that 24% is better than Melissa McCarthy’s The Boss, which heads into its second weekend hoping it has word of mouth.
