Never Forget.
1) The Sandman (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
A really well done episode that featured a perfect conversation and walk and talk between Death and Dream, that showed Death and her empathy for helping those transition. The second half was mostly Dream talking to a man they had allowed to live forever so Dream could talk to him every 100 years. Really great stuff, and by far my favorite episode so far.
Episode Grade: A+
2) Beavis and butthead (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
The new movie is still in my Top 10 of the year, so starting into the new series, it was no surprise I laughed my ass off. Very fucking moment of this was absolute perfection for fans. The first half was Beavis and Butthead doing an escape room, except they make a wrong turn and think the mens room is the Mummy’s Tomb. They also make fun of a viral video of a girl getting into Harvard, and her parents reaction. Then, Beavis has a silly conversation with fire, while they cutaway to the duo making fun of a country music video. I never stopped laughing, actually out loud.
Episode Grade: A
3) Rick and Morty (Adult Swim)
English Audio Description?: No
One of the few things I watch anyway, without audio description, and there’s so much dialogue and description within it I’ve been able to keep enjoying this show that I did start watching before losing my vision. They were doing some crazy stuff about returning to their old timelines, and it was typically bizarre and hilarious.
Episode Grade: A
4) Paper Girls (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I don’t care what Amazon thinks, I’m going to keep watching this show. My only qualm with this at this point is that no one has mentioned any sort of paradox, like the fact if young Ellen never gets home, she could never grow up to be adult Ellen. I realized this show is not concerned at all with time paradoxes, which seems odd two episodes in. Also, the villain is a bit much this early on, with no backstory given to her.
Episode Grade: A-
5) The Good Fight (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I’m a big fan, but this season opener was a clusterfuck. Andre Braugher walks in and immediately starts changing shit, without ever meeting or speaking to the other named partner. That’s a bit much. Plus, Wanda Sykes got written off in dialogue, and I know we’ll never see Mandy Patinkin again.
Episode Grade: B+
6) Baymax (Disney Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Baymax helped a cat. Not that I needed that, but we got it. My least favorite short so far.
Episode Grade: B-
7) A League of Their own (Amazon)E
English Audio Description?: Yes
I’m tired of lamenting the same problems week in and week out. I’ll finish the season, because Max is amazing, but this show has one of the worst writers rooms for like a thousand different reasons. It’s frankly exhausting. As an LGBT critic myself, I love representation, but the movie was about baseball, and this show keeps trying to show us as little of that as possible. Do these girls not know how to play? What is the deal?
Episode Grade: C (Normally, I’d stop watching, but the season is almost over, and I love Max.)
