I squeezed in eight shows for your enjoyment. How did they stack up? That’s why you’re here. That top spot could always change, and very likely did.
8) Acapulco (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
As Mossimo tries to work his way up at the hotel, he ends up being reminded that he’s just a pool boy. But, by the end, he might have just found his way up the ladder. Remember, I never watched Seaosn 1, so this was S1E3 for me.
Episode Grade: C+
7) Reservation Dogs (hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Just for clarification, I decided to drop back in on this and see whether or not Hulu had added audio description in the last few months. For S2E2, there is no audio description as of this writing. This show is much better, and easier to follow with. But, if FX and Hulu don’t care, then neither do I, and I review it based on my ability to enjoy the show without AD.
Episode Grade: C+
6) history 101 (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Well, I learned quite a bit about lasers. That’s for sure.
Episode Grade: B
5) The Last Light (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I hate how this show is structured if you still ahve the commercial plan. It just cuts whenever, never at a logical place. I’m also starting to realize that this child actor isn’t the best. I hate bashing child actors, but he’s given some dramatic elements in this episode that didn’t work. Really, the show is starting to not impress me, from the weird disguised voice that is disguised even when he’s talking to his own people. Why? The only reason you’d hide your voice in that instance is because the audience would recognize the character. Villains don’t hide their voices from their minions. This show could be better, but it just is Ok.
Episode Grade: B
4) Alaska Daily (ABC/Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
When a white girl tries to get the selfie of a lifetime and falls from a cruise ship, the Governor of Alaska announces a spare no expense operation to find her, while an indigenous woman went missing at almost the same time, and has almost no resources being given to her, so they write about the unfair inequality and obvious racial implications of making sure to save the white girl, but not the non-white one.
Episode Grade: A-
3) The Problem With Jon Stewart (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
A very interesting reaction to the midterms wraps up Jon’s really short season. Only six episodes? That’s sad. He’ll be back next year though.
Episode Grade: A-
2) Big Shot (Disney Plus)
English Audio description?: Yes
The very dramatic wildfire episode saw everyone coming together, but also Nick was forced to be in a location with both of his girlfriends. Coach and Emma are still fighting, but this whole event softens them both up a bit. And Samantha finds a way to help navigate her own anxiety. It felt a little like a very special episode, but in many ways, it also started to course correct a season that was slowly veering off track.

1) Mike (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Finally. Episode 5. This is the one I’ve been waiting for, and i think while the episode doesn’t fit the narrative they’ve been pushing the last four episodes, the jarring decision to make Mike’s victim the central character of this episode was the right thing to do. The first four episodes took this cuddly approach to introducing him through this bizarre stand up act, and almost trying to give you all the reasons why he’s such a bad boy. Here, there’s none of that. no cutaways to Mike trying to laugh it off, or do his routine, or narratively being given a plot parachute to escape the harsh truth that this is a definable moment in this man’s life, and perhaps he’s not the idol we should be worshipping. This will be the only time, I’m afraid that this show will top the list, as I’m sure we’ll be right back to making excuses for him next week. But this one half hour was really tastefully done, with a level of restraint that doesn’t sensationalize or continue to victimize its subject matter.
