The Too Much TV Roundup- December 9th

Getting a bit more caught up here… so bear with me. This SNL wasn’t even close to being Live for me.

7) Saturday Night Live (NBC/Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

I do kind of wonder why SNL doesn’t have audio description. They do live audio description. It’s a thing, and it would help with sight gags. Mainly, I was here for the Kenan and Kel reboot sketch I had heard about, but Kiki Palmer took up way too much of that time. Kel only showed up briefly. For some 20 years, I’ve held a grudge with Lorne Michaels for not taking Kel Mitchell onto SNL the same time as Kenan. Instead, Kenan came along with Finesse, who lasted all of one season. I wonder if Kel had been afforded the opportunity to be a featured player, where would his career be today, and how many great Keanan and Kel moments, outside their original characters would we have gotten? Otherwise, this episode just served as a reason for Kiki to remind everyone she’s pregnant, as that joke was beaten like a dead horse.

Episode Grade: C+

6) Little Demon (FX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Another show I know I would enjoy more if there was audio description. There’s always some crazy ass demon fighting, or major action sequence thrown in here, where the jokes drop away, and the show becomes hard to follow. I’ve stuck with it, because the voice cast is great, and the writing is strong, but who do we have to sell our soul to in order to get recognized with accessibility?

Episode Grade: B-

5) Home Economics (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Weird that The Connors didn’t have audio description but Home Economics did. I wonder if Hulu is just uploading shit late. Anyway, in a depressing way to leave us for the break, Connor loses a ton of money. Womp womp. I know there were some cute jokes, but mostly I just felt bad for him.

Episode Grade: B

4) Mythic Quest (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Poppy realized her sandbox game was more fun than Hera, and had to come to terms with that, while Brad is clearly masterminding something, that right now is oddly benefitting others. Is that his nefarious plan?

Episode Grade: B+

3) The midnight Club (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Yeah, this one lost out on a win this week. After not finishing last weeks story, it seemed logical that this week we would finish it. Nope. INstead, our local Angel porn lover had to tell her story as an apology to her group mate who has been shunned by the church due to his AIDS. I might have liked this more if it was an episode away, and we actually had wrapped up the story from before.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Ghosts (CBS/Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The hotel is trying to get a liquor license, but in the meantime, they’ve been operating illegally. When an inspector finally shows up randomly, in the middle of a drinking party, the gang thinks quickly and turns the basement into a speakeasy.

Episode Grade: A-

1) The Rookie (ABC/ Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I like how I just thought this would be an average episode, until drivers started running their cars around with bombs strapped to their bodies believing that if they stopped driving, they would explode.

Episode Grade: A
