The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/12/23

Around the Oscar’s, I still managed to watch a spot of television. I did watch the Oscars. And they will be ranked.

9) The Oscars Red Carpet (ABC)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Points to the live audio description, but our hosts this year were dreadful. Oddly enough, the guy they found with the social following was the best of that group. Ask better questions. And why couldn’t Hugh Grant be bothered?

Final Grade: C+

8) The Great North (FOX/ Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

I cannot for the life of me remember what happened. Like, my brain is struggling to pull out some nonsense, but it isn’t there, but I know I watched it.

Episode Grade: B-

7) Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Wookies. That’s why this episode got a bump up. I need a wookie show now.

Episode Grade: B

6) Saturday Night live (NBC/Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

A bit more inconsistent. Some sketches landed really well. I loved the nod to the X-Men, and the one where they were breaking up while chaos happened behind them (though that sketch demands audio description), but not every sketch landed for me. The Road Trip, for example. Maybe because I couldn’t see it, but that didn’t work.

Episode Grade: B

5) You (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I had a great non-spoiler conversation with some of my kids about how this show is about to blow my mind. So perhaps, episode 3, which felt less mind blowing, is being ranked a little lower to allow for what is, I’m told, jaw dropping stuff.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Abbott Elementary (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

One of the smartest shows around has been hinting for the past couple episodes that they will be going Charter in Season 3. Obviously. There’s no reason for this storyline to continue to bleed all over the final half of the season otherwise. Teacher Appreciation Week was fun, but not everyone likes basketball, and inevitably someone wouldn’t have wanted to go, which they didn’t explore out of the main cast. Janeane seemed the most ripe to be someone who didn’t care, and they didn’t go there.

Episode Grade: B_+

3) The Oscars (ABC)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Also, once again mad props to the live audio description people. I didn’t realize my feed was about 5 seconds behind until I started getting push notifications on my phone about the winner a few seconds before they’d win. So I learned to ignore my phone. Taking off a few points for very obvious memoriam snubs (Anne Heche, Tom Sizemore, Charlbi Dean), as well as jimmy’s far too long opening monologue. Otherwise, this went really well, and we got some great speeches.

Final Grade: A-

2) Extraordinary (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The vet that can hear his animals was a great episode. Trying to figure out who JizzLord is, also is fun. The other thing, with the vigilantes feels very Mystery men to me.

Episode Grade: A-

1) Dear Edward (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

This show is fleshing out nicely, even if it still has a bit of a problem with being too obvious. Third episode, and obviously romance is brewing, and that girl is definitely moving in with her dead boyfriend’s parents. That would make her story arc far more interesting, and gives us a character who doesn’t live in New York City to follow. She has a shitty job, and lives with roommates. Take the lifeline.

Episode Grade: A
