The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/21/23

Here’s the deal. I was busy. So, even though this says the Too Much TV roundup, today it feels very much like the normal amount of TV roundup. The ranking is kind of even silly, but I do this everyday anyway. On the plus side, Amazon stopped reversing second season orders and announced a Season 3 premiere date for Upload, so that’s positive.

3) And Just Like That (MAX)

We weren’t really able to check in on all of the women because Carrie found Aiden again. And my God, we must focus on Aiden. Carrie literally sat down with him at the end of the last episode, and we’re immediately in a place where Carrie is thinking Big was a mistake, and she should have chosen Aiden all along. Miranda and Charlotte have a substantial amount of screentime as well, and it almost feels like there’s a hierarchy again, between the old cast members and the newer ones. This show was trying to seamlessly blend the new cast in, like since the last time we saw Carrie and company their friends circle changed and grew, but it can’t do that in episodes like this where it continues to treat this show like there is a top tier set of friends, and a bottom tier consisting of all the brown and black people. Yeah, Aiden is back, but was Lisa even in this episode?

2) Veep (MAX)

Selina campaigned for her party across the company at midterms and suffered a blow. A statistic showed she was 0.9% more effective than the President, which she held as a high honor until it meant she had a lot of work to do. Be careful what you wish for.Mainly, this episode lost because so many of these characters lack levels, and you can feel that between the candidate Selina was trying to help (who keeps talking about getting Dan in jail), and Gary Cole’s new character that is in a Senior Advisor role. What’s great about the core cast is that they have levels, but sometimes the extra characters brought in are all just crude smarmy asshats.

1) The After Party (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I know I haven’t reached the end of the season, and a show like this is as much about sticking the landing as the journey, but Sebastian’s episode was terrific as well. This episode even reminded me who the Season 1 killer was. I’m loving the vibe of each episode. I’ve seen some TV critics say it didn’t need a second season, but I think it’s creatively strong still. I’m not sure how many times it can pull this off, but i might like Season 2 more than Season 1.
