TV Shows Watched: Silo: S3E9 (Apple) with audio description, Stuart Fails: S1E6 (HBO MAX) with audio description, Elle: S1E4 (Amazon) with audio description, St Dennis Medical: S2E14 (Peacock) with audio description Silo- I’m not a scientist, and it has been a while since I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, but with the modicum of research I’ve done, the final sequence is nonsense. Thrilling, sure, but nonsense. The blast radius would never hit them where they are. A certain person made a big show of reinforcing how out in the middle of nowhere they basically were, due to the buying … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 08/28/26

TV Shows Watched: Sugar: Season 2 (Apple) with audio description, Black Clover: S1E1 (CrunchyRoll) with audio description, and American Classic: S1E7 (MGM Plus) with audio description Seems like a slow news day until you realize that’s eight episodes of Sugar. Sugar- I do plan on reviewing, which is the whole point of bingeing. I didn’t really love Season 1, though I appreciated its vibes in terms of that old school gumshoe thing Colin Farrell has going on, which reminded me of like The Maltese Falcon, or Chinatown. Then things got weird, and if you haven’t seen Sugar at all, just … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 08/18/26

They tipped their hat previously when the narrator couldn’t pronounce the name of a character, so I operate as if this was synthetic. … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 08/16/26

I do have every intention of doing a season review because I’m a big fan, but I’m deeply disappointed that Disney cut the budget on Deluxe, forcing them to use a synthetic narrator for one of their branded shows. It’s already entering pre-production on Season 4, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 08/12/26

Camille finds what she’s looking for, Juliette tries to make her play after remembering Silo 17, and the Sheriff might have found out who killed the Shadow. It’s a shame the Shadow died, because they know what evil lurks in the hearts of men. Nice audio description, not a … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 08/07/26

Criminal Record: Season 2

Apple has quietly assembled one of the most impressive television libraries in the business. HBO still has the advantage of decades of prestige programming, but considering Apple TV+ has only been around for a handful of years, the quality of its lineup is remarkable. Even beyond the awards magnets like Severance and Slow Horses, there are shows such as For All Mankind that have built fiercely loyal fan bases without the Emmys showering them with trophies every year. Then there’s Trying, which recently returned to my absolute delight. Somewhere in the middle of that lineup sits Criminal Record, a British … Continue reading Criminal Record: Season 2

Cape Fear: Season 1

A tale as old as time. A film that’s been rewritten enough that it credits multiple original screenwriters. Cape Fear, the new Apple limited series, is adapted from two previous films, which were themselves adapted from John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners. It’s almost like playing a game of telephone, seeing what gets passed from version to version while recognizing that this is 2026. We have the internet, smartphones, and a very different world than the one these earlier adaptations existed in, giving the series opportunities to modernize the story in ways previous versions couldn’t. Of course, the last trip … Continue reading Cape Fear: Season 1

So, I’ll just say that it had solid audio description, especially regarding the person with the burns. However, I wish we had a better idea of the expansiveness or lack thereof of … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 07/31/26

Star City: Season 1

Star City is one of those series that I wanted to love almost by default because I love For All Mankind. Admittedly, I haven’t reviewed all five seasons of that show, but I’ve watched them, and even though I don’t think season five was the strongest of the bunch, I still think For All Mankind is one of the best television series Apple has ever produced. I have spent years wondering how on earth it has managed to fly so far under the radar with the Emmys. The work from that cast over multiple seasons has been outstanding, and the … Continue reading Star City: Season 1

the Dink

If pickleball is invading our lives, eventually it was going to invade the cinemas, and Apple is just the studio to take advantage of it. The Dink is the latest comedy from Josh Greenbaum, the director of Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, and continues the plague upon our people that is pickleball. I say that jokingly. I’ve never played pickleball. I have no idea what it’s like. I don’t even conceptually understand the sport. But it seems to be one of those things where people either absolutely love it or absolutely hate it, and that’s exactly what … Continue reading the Dink
