The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/08/23

The SAG strike is over, and within minutes actors were being notified of projected start dates for filming so that shows can air some episodes in the spring. Many shows aren’t looking at being able to do more than 10, though some are hoping for 13.Most new shows are being shifted to next season, so don’t expect to see a lot of unfamiliar far. I do wonder how shows with visual effects will pan out, like the already shortened third (and rumored final) season of Labrea. Movies are also set to resume filming, with Venom 3 even looking at having a Fall 2024 release date.

7) Shining Veil (Starz)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Unknown

I haven’t watched an episode of this show yet where I haven’t felt like I’m missing something. it does have a quirky plot, solid writers, and two stars that make me sit though a mostly unintelligible episode, but my patience does wear thin at times.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

6) Young Love (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: unknown

The family we are supposed to like invites an unhoused family to live with them, but uses it for likes and follows. It was certainly a weird choice. It was hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that I’m supposed to like the character clearly out of touch, and using other people for follows.

Episode Grade: C

5) The Hardy Boys (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

After that tragic death, the Hardy Boys and their friends are still trying to uncover who hired JB in the first place. When they do unravel the story, the show does start to get interesting, especially when the nefarious businessman captures the adults they love.

Episode Grade: B

4) The Witcher (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Siri has come into her own, and is now kicking some butt. The best scene in this episode was Siri and Saskia having a fake conversation on top of Garolt and Yennifer’s. They know each other so well, and a bit of levity in a show that rarely has any, or any good levity, was welcome.

Episode Grade: B

3) Found (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

My biggest complaint is that i really don’t know what the future of this show looks like. I don’t think she can keep Sir in her basement forever, or that writers wouldn’t try to do something with this scenario,so I wonder if this is something like Prodigal Son, where the first season did well with its killer premise, but it struggled in its sophomore run. Also, this week was a little too predictable.

Episode Grade: B

2) Veep (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

The Season 3 opener, featuring Selina signing books, and Jonah getting fired, was pretty excellent.

Episode Grade: A-

1) All Rise (OWN)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Final Season

I know it doesn’t have audio description, but close to the end, the writers took a moment to highlight a very important real life issue, and the way they handled it was perfection. So, without diving into that treacherous water, I’m just giving this the win for the day.

Episode Grade: A
