Yesterday, I did a Speed Round, and I chose to list the shows in order I watched them, instead of ranking them. I actually kind of like that format better, so I’m sticking with it. Unless you guys riot, in which case, I’ll still probably keep doing it. We will not negotiate with terrorists! Or Netflix, apparently, which cancelled five shows yesterday. II was personally most upset that Glamorous wouldn’t be getting a second season, as I thought the ensemble had strong chemistry, and Agent Elvis was fun, but I know fans of Shadow and Bone worked really hard to get another season. They had fans who were running the series in the background just to log views. Not to be outdone, Paramount Plus announced that the next season of Seal Team will be its last. Also, FOX will not be bringing back 911 Lone Star in the Spring. The strike has pushed Season 5 of that show till next fall. Lastly, David Zazloff, who in 2021 earned over 240 million as the head of Warner Bros, actually decided to whine post-WGA strike that they overpaid to end the strike. Bro, YOU are overpaid. What exactly do you do that is worth the salaries of so many of those you just devalued? The WGA deal was valued around 700M, and this guy earns over a third of that deal that was in place for tens of thousands of writers. I really hate that guy. And it turns out, at last according to Phil lord and Chris Miller, that Coyote Vs Acme might actually be good.
So, after all that, the roundup, in order of how I watched the shows.
1) The Witcher (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
S3E5- We definitely seem to be giving Siri a lot more to do. Season 3 hasn’t been quite as fun or interesting to me, perhaps because we are still just kind of doing the same old stuff. I wonder what this show will look like without Henry Cavill.
Episode Grade: B
2) Yellowjackets (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Renewed
in the flashbacks, we lost another Yellowjacket, and I doubt she will be the last. Meanwhile, the surprisingly still alive Van is trying to help Tai figure out whats wrong with her life, and Lotte’s cult is finally discovered by Elijah Wood and Christina Ricci, whose reteaming has made me infinitely happy. And that cop totally smelled the insides of a condom so figure out if it was lotion. I’m surprised he didn’t do a taste test.
Episode Grade: A
3) Shining Veil (Starz)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Not Yet Renewed
The stars here make the show worthwhile, but all the silly jump scare moments are lost without audio description. In fact, most of the gothic horror suggestions in this series are lost on me without audio description.
Episode Grade: Unwatchable
4) Found (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Not Yet Renewed
“There has been a credible Sir sighting at your place”. I could tell you that I was happy that this show attempted to do something with the pervasive amounts of Native American women who go missing but, this was all about the finish, and what possibly might happen next episode.
Episode Grade: A-
5) Young Love (MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Not Yet Renewed
I like the show, but I hate Lil Unc. I’ve already had more of that character than I ever need in my life. He’s devaluing episodes now. The beginning with Issa Rae trying to rap and getting heavily bleeped was funny… but isn’t this a kids show? Again, it begs the question I asked in the very beginning… who is this show for?
Episode Grade: B
6) X-Men (Disney plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Wolverine is trying to bring Morph back, while Rogue and Storm fight the Shadow King to try and save her son’s life.
Episode Grade: B+
7) The First Wives Club (BET Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Unknown
After losing one of the original First Wives, we seem to have inherited a new friend, who lives in the attic of her house while her husband uses the rest of the house and has new girlfriends over. intervention time.
Episode Grade: B
8) Futurama (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Can Gobbler be entered into a competition to win 500 dollars and some dog food? Best joke here was fry trying to literally count actual sheep, and falling asleep.
Episode Grade: B-
9) Family Matters (MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Ended
Carl is this close to getting Eddie to do a ride along, but a modeling thing comes up, and Carl’s boss is expecting a Winslow tradition. Thank God Urkel is always inside a house he doesn’t live in.
Episode Grade: B
10) Saturday Night Live (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Renewed
Pro Tip. if your star is promoting an upcoming musical, make sure they can sing before putting them out there to promote the film. Chalamet was funny in a lot of other sketches, but that opening was rough. The Britney book reading sketch was bad for different reasons. A lot of those impersonations weren’t good, coming from someone who only had the ears to judge. Most of them sounded nothing like their counterparts.
