The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/18/23

I guess there has been movement on the Big Little Lies front. Kidman just finished shooting a series for Netflix, Reese Witherspoon should be between seasons of The Morning Show, and I assume the rest of the cast is available.

1) The Fall Of The House Of Usher (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited Series

I went seven episodes warning Flanagan that if he did what I was aware could happen, that we would not be on good terms. he made his choice, so i make mine. That is the LEAST spoilery way I can offer you a recap here.

Episode Grade: C+

2) Goosebumps (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Disney really need to pick this show up for a second season. I like this better than either of the movies we released into theatres. The show has slowly developed out and now we get Night Of The Living Dummy. They took some liberties with this novel, but the incorporation of Slappy was always going to happen, and it came with a ton of backstory.

Episode Grade: A

2) Our Flag Means Death (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Steve finds his way back to Ed’s ship, and is trying to find his true love, who seems to be stuck in purgatory. Will Ed survive? Can these two ever just settle down and have kids and raise a pirate family correctly?

Episode Grade: A-

4) Wolf Like Me (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Someone accidentally opens the wrong door at the wrong time. It’s cute to have a werewolf for a girlfriend, until you realize she might kill you for real this time.

Final Grade: A-

5) The Gold (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited Series

The best part of this episode were the moments the young guy was sharing with his mom before being arrested, and she seemed to quite unapologetically support his life choices. This is too long of a limited series otherwise, still.

Episode Grade: B

6) Smash (Roku)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

They are still trying to save Marilyn, but Kat pee is moving on to Jeremy Jordan’s more pop oriented musical with Derek. I wasn’t nearly as big of a fan of Season 2 for this very reason.

Episode Grade: B-

7) Virgin River (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: I’m Sure They Will Renew it

I could have cared about Mel this episode, and her perpetual drama, or the fact that Kaya now has to go to Alaska with her ex and leave Preacher behind, or even Brady and his on going quest to win back his true love by putting himself in danger, and also being great with kids. But, all I could think about was Muriel and her recently acquired boyfriend trying to now pretend like they aren’t going to rock around the clock tonight. Don’t toy with my emotions, Virgin River. Oh, and a character drifts in, says some shit, and then leaves. And no one cares.

Episode Grade: B-

8) All Rise (OWN)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Now I have beef with Lola as well. She’s got a 402 on a case where a rape victim isn’t allowed to mention the previous rape accusation because he was acquitted, which is the whole reason she attacked him. it makes no sense. You want the jury to understand the facts, then understanding motive is part of it. If anything, it actually makes her look more guilty, because she has a reason to smack the guy with a tire iron. Without it, it just makes a perfectly normal person look like they just went ape shit in a totally unprovoked manner for no reason whatsoever. It pissed me off, but I figured Emily should have doubled down, and instead challenged the prosecution to prove premeditation. Without being able to mention the “why”, she has no motive. So, how could it be premeditated?

Episode Grade: B-

9) The Morning Show (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed?

Corey is really turning more and more into a character I don’t like anymore. Meanwhile, Paul and Alex get closer, and we meet Corey’s mom. Also, Stella has to deal with her past.

Episode Grade: A-
