Timing is everything. Netflix announced the cancellation of The Brothers Sun right after I finished the final episode of the season. I liked the show, and I would have come back for a second season, but I could say that about a number of shows Netflix sends into the void every year. I’m not angry enough to tweet them, or X them. I don’t know why Elon had to go and make that weird. I want to send tweets, not whatever the hell we call it now. But, Michelle Yeoh’s Netflix show is short lived.
I will testify that Halo (Paramount Plus) episode 4 was amazing. Stunning even. Just an incredible action packed episode that slid right into the middle of the season, as the horde infiltrated Sanctuary, and the evil leader that sent Cobalt to die is nowhere to be found. Luckily, we have Master Chief. The audio description here was incredible, and it might be the best described show I’m watching right now.
I did finish Quantum Leap (Peacock), which really also has some solid audio description, and it went exactly where I thought it would. I had a feeling that was exactly who Gideon was. If they don’t give this show another season, THIS is will protest. It’s time one of these iterations brought someone home.
Choir (Disney Plus) just has the most non-specific audio description. By episode 3, there really isn’t much it can do to course correct, much like My Life With The Walter Boys. Once you have introduced a character or a person with lacking description, they are already in. It would be weird to suddenly in the late stage of the show give them better representation. Also, when the guy says “they are going to have to sight read and sing classical music”, I expect solfège and actual classical music. these kids are still singing songs from the NBA 2K soundtrack. I don’t mind that, but don’t talk about classical and not do it, and teach your children do re mi fa so la ti and how to actually sight read music. one girl just sight reads by using the same open tone, and all that showed me is that she can keep a beat and knows how long to hold out dotted quarter notes and stuff.
The Rookie (Hulu) saw the return of a lot of people for the wedding of the century. Quite literally. This was also their 100th episode, so to have Nolan and Bailey tie the knot was a special occasion. i was missing Simone though. I think it would have been nice to see Simone roll through one last time and give fans of The Rookie: Feds closure on her character, while also showing her bond with Nolan was strong enough for her to be at the wedding. They brought back Randy for God’s sake.
and finally, the new CBS drama Elzabeth (Paramount Plus) launched. They got a big opening guest star with Stephen Moyer (True Blood), and I caught Wendell Pierce (who just landed the gig of Perry White in the new Superman film). but, this is all about Carrie Preston, whose lawyer character originated on The Good Wife, later appearing on The Good Fight. Now, she is working with a police department, trying to keep them honest. She’s part detective, part lawyer. It is certainly feeling a little like Monk. And Moyer was such a great tie in as a first guest, as he originally starred in True blood opposite Preston. Another full circle moment. The audio description was nice, and I think this pairs well with So Help Me Todd.
