TV Shows Watched: Outlander: Blood of My Blood: s1E1 (Starz) no audio description, Wednesday: S2E4 (Netflix) with audio description, Foundation: S3E5 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Washington Black: S1E4 (Hulu) with audio description
I also crammed in a Leanne Morgan comedy special on Netflix to get a better idea of her schtick, since her series doesn’t know what to do with her. And, I once again considered revival, but they haven’t added audio description to the next episode, so I’m in a standoff. It’s a standoff that is close to me giving up and throwing up a review on Rotten Tomatoes, based on the accessible (and I use that term lightly) episodes.
Outlander: Blood Of My blood- I know. you re as shocked as I am. This series has no audio description. I hate to report that, but Starz, which doesn’t create audio description or run it on their streaming service, has no audio description for Blood of My Blood. If you’re a fan like me, or read the books, and tried to make it through the series and wonder what on earth this is… it is a prequel. This focuses on the parents or ancestors of Jamie and Claire. The first episode is 95% Jamie’s ancestors, focusing on Scotland, and the various clans. Clan Mackenzie has just lost their Laird, without him naming a successor, so his sons are squabbling over it, and his lone unmarried daughter is clearly the smartest in the room. However, outside forces may be making a play as well. And the young lass Ellen Mackenzie runs into someone with the last name of Fraser. At the end, we check on Claire’s parents, who are naturally having sex, because this is Outlander, and afterward they accidentally stumble into the same time warp Claire did. I’m assuming the second episode will focus on them being sucked through time. If you are somewhat familiar with Outlander, you’ll be marginally aware of what is happening. I wouldn’t recommend it for blind or low vision audiences, but the score is beautiful, the new opening song is amazing, and as someone who gave up on the original series somewhere around the time they were in America, and Claire’s daughter had time travelled with her boyfriend, and they had a kid… I checked out. this has potential, but I wish it had audio description. Scotland is beautiful, and I want to hear that beauty.
Wednesday: I’m not doing my big review until all eight episodes have been consumed. So, for now, excellent audio description. Episode 4 has a major reveal, two deaths of consequence, and I’m still loving Agnes. For the back half, my wish is for Gomez and Morticia to go away so they can actually give Wednesday’s Scooby gang stuff to do. Enid, Eugene, and Ajax have been waiting for something to do.
Foundation- the only series that makes me feel dumb, and yet I keep watching. this is challenging TV. Issac Asimov was clearly a genius, and I’m amazed this work translates at all. Jedidiah Barton’s audio description here is solid.
Washington Black- This series would be better if it were shorter, I stand by that, but it’s on some kind of a journey. It just feels like it is stretching all the time. I like the audio description here, as more conflict continues to arise.
