TV Shows Watched: Smoke: S1E9 (Apple Plus) with audio description, The Institute: S1E6 (MGM Plus) with audio description, and The Rainmaker: S1E1 (Peacock) with audio description
Smoke- Still very busy, but I did manage to wrap up Smoke. I’m planning on reviewing the series, as I did like it, and the little twist in the final moments of Episode 9 is just stunning. It puts the entire series in a new perspective, as you could go back and rewatch the series, and view it from that context. Yes, Smoke has some predictability woven in, but that creative little spin at the end makes up for it.
The Institute- So our escapee did get out, and predictably meets up with our door knocker. Two supporting characters bite the dust, and even though Luke warns that they likely have more people in town, we predictably find out he’s right. Where do we go from here?
The Rainmaker- i love how the series sheesily manages to use the title in dialogue. Based on the John Grisham novel, because we’re finally realizing he has a treasure trove of novels that no one is adapting right now because for some reason we’re all obsessed with the Collected Works of Harlan Cobin. The movie, released almost 30 years ago, starred Matt Damon, and this stars… not Matt Damon. it has some light beats in it, and this could be a not too heavy legal drama on USA, a little closer to the tone of Suits. The loose plot is that a law school prodigy gets fired from his dream job on day one, and no other firm is hiring except this seemingly shady lawyer who works out of an abandoned (or maybe not) restaurant. Can he fight for the little guy… and become a Rainmaker? Can he topple the big bad wolf who drops fries on the ground as a power play? Time will tell. The audio description was refreshingly fine for a Peacock series. Considering my diet on Peacock has been twisted Metal and Revival, this AD is Emmy worthy by those standards.
