Starting with tomorrow’s diary, it is that dreaded reality of remembering it is a new year, and actually reflecting that when you type in a date. But you know, I’m going to accidentally slip up. Not this year. My New Year’s Resolution is to get that date change right. If you set small attainable goals… because clearly, we aren’t moving the needle much on the pass through of audio description anytime soon. I just posted my YouTube review of a film yesterday, and someone from the film thanked me for my review and said “Oh by the way, we did create an audio description track.” Good luck finding it. You know how in Mary Poppins Returns, how she sings “The Place Where The Lost Things Go?” I bet a lot of audio description tracks have been renditioned there.
TV Shows Watched: Fallout: S2E3 (Amazon) with audio description and Landman: S2E2 (Paramount Plus) with audio description.
Fallout- It might just be me, but when the Ghoul interacts with the sentient machine, I felt like it wasn’t described in enough detail. I didn’t understand the joke about how it used to be something, but assumed it was a vending machine. Was it ever something? I did play the video games, and while I remember rad roaches and stuff, this I do not get the reference, and I’m not sure the AD supported it. However, it did make sure we clocked the dynamite, it comically reminded us whose head is put on the pike at the top of the episode, and it did a fairly decent job describing the Legionnaires.
Landman- I’ve been watching people complain about the writing for the female characters here, because Tommy has the craziest and dumbest wife and daughter combo. They aren’t really written well, and I guess are supposed to clash with Tommy’s rough exterior? Also, for those who have never seen, the audio description will not tell you that Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliot couldn’t look any less like father and son if they tried. Of course, it doesn’t help that Elliot is only eleven years older than Billy Bob. The audio description was fine.
