Silo- So everyone will talk about that last scene. Get this episode in before your friends spoil it for you. The AD here was fine, like it has been thus far. I have no problems with Silo, and I love the series. I won’t go into the episode, since it is super fresh, and impossible to weave through the story without spoiling it.
Stuart Fails To Save The Universe- If you love nerdy, Sci-fi comedies, and even if The Big Bang Theory didn’t work for you, this just might. It is shot in an entirely different format, going single cam, leaning in on an effects heavy dystopian future. And they might hop into different worlds each episode, it is hard to tell. It is bonkers, and way better than I expected it to be, given how basic Georgie and Mandy is. The AD here is lovely, since the opening title sequence is one of the best of the year. This is one you don’t want to miss, because it breaks the fourth wall. Lots of Big Bang cameos for the fans, but the format is wildly different. It reminded me of films like John Dies At THe End and shows like Time Bandits.
Detective Hole- Looks like we’re headed for a predictable ending, as Hari figures out some stuff right at the end, about who might really be behind everything. The narrator isn’t credited here which is super weird. But, again with my horrible guessing, I think it might just be Kid Rock. He’s the Real McCoy after all. Odd choice for a narrator, but I assume the stiffness in the narration comes from my long held belief that Kid is barely literate.
Off Campus- Our couple is dealing with some shit. While Garrett heads into this big game, with his controlling and abusive father looming, he can’t clear his head, and he keeps texting his girlfriend, but Hannah has her own baggage, realizing her boyfriend is playing against a player who sexually assaulted her (which he weaponizes on the ice). She also finally tells her parents she lost her scholarship. It is a heavy episode for both, but I think these crazy kids can get through it. Meanwhilke, Hannah’s friend is looking into having meaningless sex with a complete stranger. The AD here was good, but it does better when it gets creative sex scenes, which didn’t exist here.
Will Trent- Basically everyone but Will is trying to stop human trafficking, but Will is trying to catch Adelaide, and because someone unfortunately stops by his house, I think it gave Adelaide the impression they were working with Will, or knew more than they did, so we jettisoned an original cast member this episode. Now Will is really pissed. He’s gonna have to keep disassociating with reality I suppose, in order to bring justice. I don’t like this season, and the death is impactful, but Will has lost his damn mind. The AD is way better than it was previously though. The first three seasons were rough.
Abbott Elementary- I’m almost afraid to push the bear that is Disney, because if I keep bitching about Vito being the flat dry narrator for a sitcom, and how the writing can most definitely be better, they’ll just swap in synthetic, because Disney has been dancing in that sandbox recently. Season 5 of Abbott is my least favorite, and this finale meant nothing. It sets up a lot, and then walks back nearly everything. I’m not sure what the point was. Gregory becomes the assistant principal? That seems to be the only thing that sticks for next season.
Best AD: I’m not sure there is one standout far beyond the rest, so I’ll just give thumbs up to Silo, Stuart Fails, Off Campus, and Will Trent.
Worst AD- Kid Rock’s voice is pretty terrible on Detective Hole, though the series is better written than Abbott Elementary, which fails basically across the board. So, Abbott is the loser.
