The Small Screen Diaries: 05/07/26

TV Shows Watched: The Boys: S5E6 (Amazon) with audio description, Criminal Record: S2E1 (Apple) with audio description, Has Been Hotel: S2E8 (Amazon) with audio description, Dynasty: The Murdocks: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, and Margo’s Got Money Troubles: S1E1 (Apple) with audio description

The Boys: Another major character bites the dust, the finale is a big cliffhanger, but I think the most important clue to the future of the series and the finale is in what Soldier Boy is asked to do this episode. In an exchange with Bombsite, he reveals he has a very specific power that will come in handy, I think, in the finale. I don’t think it was an accident that we got that power explained to us. The finale, by the way, is doing a theatrical engagement the night before it drops on Prime.

Criminal Record- The new season deals with protocol being so down to the letter, the police are a bit late in stopping a violent mob, and a mostly innocent teen loses his life. Then, we learn there’s been a jail break that hasn’t been made public. These two stories will likely fuel the second season. The first season was solid, so I came back for another go around.

Has Been Hotel- I’m not a huge fan, so it took me this long to finish Season 2, but that big musical number at the end was actually catchy. I don’t love everything they do, but that song worked for me. Media Access does the AD here, and it’s pretty good. I wish I liked the show more.

Dynasty: The Murdocks- Roy Samuelson’s narration continues in the drama of the family that inspired Succession. Either you want to know more about the family or not. Most of the time, I ahve no idea who is talking, or why I should care. I believe VSI produced the track.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles- Apple’s quirky new comedy with a stacked cast, led by Elle Fanning and Michelle Pfieffer, but will also include Greg Kinnear, Nick Offerman, Nicole Kidman, and Marcia Gay Harden. David E. Kelly, who is married to Pfieffer, is behind this. The show centers on a bright college student who gets impregnated by her professor, and decides to raise the baby (mostly) on her own. The series gets you through character introductions, fast tracks the relationship and the pregnancy, so it can end with childbirth. The audio description was fine, but there was a moment where Margo was confronting her professor, and her mom casually walks by. She mentions he checked her out, but I don’t think the AD actually clocked it.
