XO Kitty- Jumping back in as Kitty’s summer ends, she heads back to define her relationship with Mino, only to find out a new/returning student is going to throw a wrench into her senior year. On top of that, her cousin now works there, AND she has to take a Korean Culture class. What is a girl to do? Lovely audio description. They really catch the little anime quirks they throw in here, much like the cartoons Heartstopper uses. Plus, they use. Multiple voices for narration and subtitles. The whole thing with the cherry blossoms up at the top was lovely.
Widow’s Bay- I’m quickly loving the new Matthew Rhys show, as the horror/comedy starts to dip its toes a bit more into the spooky, and leave us rattled. But, it still has a dark humor about it that resonates, so it isn’t just doom and gloom. Very much like Shining Veil.I also vastly appreciated the audio description here, especially in the crawl space segment. I love how creepy it was not being able to see the face at first, but we all knew. Right?
Paradise- Jane. An episode dedicated to Jane, though I want to know who sent that message. Are we messing with time travel now? Someone predicted Jane would be insane, or did they just do that to create insanity within a random child? Either way, it worked, and Jane is a cold, effective, killing tool, and it seems like she’s found her master, which is something she says she explicitly needs. Also, Xavier really needs to trust the postman a lot less. I loved the little pop culture jokes, like the “loved you in Inglorious Basterds” or the Shawshank jokes.
The Pitt- I finished this season finally, and Dana is the winner. Sure, Robbie had a lot in Season one, but I’m sorry, Dana killed it. My whole review is up, and like half of it is in appreciation of Dana. Oddly, I’d be fine with it not winning the Emmy for Best Series, but I need her in Supporting Actress I think. I’ll be hard pressed to come up with a strong alternative to Katherine Lanasa.
Malice- David Duchovny has a fun episode as the world starts to come down around him. Does he deserve it? One more episode to go.
Top Chef- Nine will become Eight as the contestants are judged by the most important group of people ever. Super fans. I wasn’t invited, so I’ll assume my invite was lost in the mail, considering I’ve watched 24 seasons of this show, even the seasons where it didn’t have audio description by She Ra, and I struggled to follow it. Now, I have nominal identification of contestants, and occasional description of where they are. I can’t appreciate the food the same way, but that would be a challenge for the greatest AD narrators. Make me hungry through audio description.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles- Turns out Margo also has two useless roommates who exist the show stage right after being inconvenienced by a baby. Man, I love babies. If I had a roommate who brought home a baby, they’d forget they even had it because I’d constantly be taking care of it. Episode 2 also introduces Nick Offerman’s character, who looks like he’ll be a fun addition when he works his way in. The AD here is actually pretty solid. Not all Apple shows are created equal, even though almost all are done by Pixellogic, but I know I have a lovely writer when they bothered, in the little scene with the four roommates, to mention that Suzy heads back into her room, sliding her door across, and they also mentioned her space was purple. She’s not even the lead, and now I know her living space is purple? Hell yes. Attention to detail.
