The Testaments- Basically, can be described as everyone loves Agnes. In an episode about whether or not Daisy had helped Agnes, Becca triples down, and really gives a shocking declaration of just how far she’s willing to go for Agnes. Damn. And that final scene was chilling. Probably the most chilling scene of the series thus far. I thought when the eyes came for the pearl girl, that was a lot. Nope. As far as whether or not this will stick, it depends on if they follow the book or not. Right now, they are still within the lines with regard to Becca. That’s all I’ll say.
The Burroughs- The new series from The Duffer Bros stars an older cast anchored by Alfred Molina, but also featuring Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’HAre, and Bill Pullman. It makes no bones about what kind of show it is, having what amounts to a typical horror movie opening death sequence, but wht makes this series interesting is the septuagenarian cast that are the protagonists. Molina is presented as very capable, and didn’t need or want this retirement community, but was moving here for his wife, who recently passed, and he moves anyway because he can’t get out of the contract. He meets and befriends some of the more sane and mobile patients, including his neighbor Jack (Bill Pullman), but some stranger things are afoot. Definitely leaning horror, though I wouldn’t call it particularly scary unless you have a low tolerance. At least, not yet anyway. Kinda like how Stranger Things had a lot of weird horror, but wasn’t necessarily scary. I liked the description, but I swear the narrator said Greena Davis, so I’m gonna have my ears fixed and ready for the next episode.
Young Sherlock- Love this iteration. Guy Ritchie helping this thing along, after doing the Robert Downey Jr films, clearly helps, and makes me wish RDJ would return to the role on the big screen. Guy Ritchie may not be great at everything, but his style certainly does help Sherlock Holmes, and Colin Firth is despicable here. A great man to dislike.
Bel Air- I tried to take the episode seriously until the gang all went off to “Smash Island”, and of course the first (and only) three couples chosen involved the primary cast. No randoms, except the girl interested in Will, I suppose. Smash Island. That should be a new dating reality show.
Your Friends And Neighbors- This episode gives James Marsden’s new character a hint of purpose right at the end, but until then, it feels like more of the same, just characters doing what they always do on this show. So much so, Hamm’s character complains about it in his inner monologue.
Abbott Elementary- Jacob needs to win this election, there’s a Freaky Friday swap, and Mr Johnson is nervous about an impending date with the female janitor from earlier in the season. The beginning was cute, where everyone could hold the baby peacefully except Barbara. I’ve never been a fan of the Ad here, and there were moments where there was nothing, and I was muttering to myself “oh come on”. Described by Verb It.Words I don’t like to hear. Of the six shows, if this was a reality show, I’d vote this AD company off Smash Island.
