Tomorrow, I’ll have more to say on the AI voice currently doing the second season of Deli Boys.
TV Shows Watched: Spider-Noir: S1E2 (Amazon) with audio description, Legends: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, For All Mankind: S5E6 (Apple) with audio description, Top Chef: Top 8 (Peacock) with audio description, The Beauty: S1E8 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Love Story: S1E6 (Disney Plus) with audio description, and The Four Seasons: S2E1 (Netflix) with audio description
Spider-Nor- I believe this is Zambie Page doing the audio description. I think there might have been some color in reference to Cat’s outfit, but I’m paying attention since we have the choice between color/black and white, to see how deep we go down the rabbit hole. The second episode has Ben in the crosshairs of Silvermane, so the only logical thing he can do is suit up, and let Silverman know who the boss is. It is not Tony Danza this time. I like the show, it is stylish and fresh, and worth the watch.
Legends- A pretty basic crime drama, with a hint of Slow Horses, since most of the agents being used here are new and this is their first gig, as they try to take down this massive drug smuggling ring. I haven’t really seen anything here I haven’t seen before, so if you like shows like this, it is for you. It doesn’t stand out enough to rise to the top for people who are looking only for the big hot new shows of the moment, like The Boroughs. Also, in the AI war, this track doesn’t sound great. It reminded me of how Lord Of The Flies has a mix to it that feels mono in a stereo world, and I’m hearing AI description that is better mixed, and at least narrated with the same generic inflection as this is.AI is coming for your jobs. Be human. Emote.
For All Mankind- Still has lovely audio description, in this episode that follows the fallout from the riot, and a lot of posturing. With that resounding answer from Earth, how will MArs respond? Without an intelligent leader like Ed behind them, are they doomed before they start? I like this AD track, it has been consistently solid for five seasons. We also start paying attention to this girl back on earth who is Tracey’s granddaughter. How will she factor into the larger story? The spinoff Star City premieres today.
Top Chef- She-Ra is back narrating again for Restaurant Wars, which has our disability representation tapping out for health reasons, and her partner was just eliminated, so they reach back to the 10th place finisher to fill Jen’s spot. If this is human AD, credit yourself. Until otherwise, I credit you as I see fit.
The Beauty- And She Ra is back! This is a series that occasionally has bursts of fantastic audio description due to the high volume of gore. Considering Ryan Murphy is overstretched, this is one of the better things he’s made recently, because it knows it is campy shit and leans into it.If you aren’t interested in watching long form The Substance, with a terrific cast, then pass on this.
Love Story- Speaking of Ryan Murphy, though this is a different narrator, I’m a little bored with interpretive retellings. After the last season of Monster, he’s lost a lot of credibility with sticking to the facts and actual history, so when people involved say that never happened, I no longer believe Murphy went to the trouble to make sure it did. This is the wedding episode. It was fine.
The Four Seasons- The whole cast is back, trying to spread their friends ashes. Some tea is spilled, goofy situational comedy persists, and I’m at least interested. Plus, this has human audio description, and I’m 99.9% sure it retained the same narrator as Season 1.
