The Small Screen Diaries: 06/12/26

TV Shows Watched: Unchosen: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Margo’s Got Money Troubles: S1E3 (Apple) with audio description, Tracker: S3E? (Paramount), and The Four Seasons: S2E3 (Netflix) with audio description

Unchosen- They’ve got Sam living in an “outhouse”, and this is one of those times, where I think the UK and American AD teams need to get together, and have a conversation about what words mean in other countries. Like, for example, imagine if every UK track you heard chose a certain word for cigarette that doesn’t translate well abroad. It would feel quite jarring. it is a little strange to hear Sam lives in an outhouse. Food for thought.

Margo’s Got MOney Troubles-Nick Offerman is fucking adorable in this show. I think he’s on some mission to redefine masculinity, since so many people use Ron Swanson as a meme magnet. Here, his Jinx is this pro wrestler, recovering addict, who is trying to make things right. He’s emotionally open to criticism, and seems very willing to be there for Margo. I write this, knowing where his character is headed, and I also know this show has a multi season arc, so I’m hoping David E Kelly fixes things in Season 2.

Tracker- Colter has to figure out who took a little kid and then get him back ASAP. The AD here by Media Access Group is always solid. Super reliable.

The Four Seasons- We move into spring, and the introduction of Mark Steven Pasquale), who becomes a friend for Will Forte’s character, but also an obvious choice to try and set up with Ann (Kerry Kinney, who is killing it this season). A lot of the talk in Season 1 had to do with Coleman Domingo, since they gave his character a health scare and he’s Coleman Domingo, but if anyone gets the nomination, it should be Kinney. She’s a previous nominee for Reno 911, but has been absent from the Emmys since. Ann is the role to do it. Descriptive Video Works does the audio description, and Jeff Heck is writing this as best as he can. Sitcoms are hard, but I see a lot of little attentions to detail happening, like in the scene where Ann comes back around, with a changed appearance, we get that description. Jazzy Frizzle does a lovely job keeping the tone upbeat for this comedy.
