Apple announced that the upcoming fifth season of The Morning Show, slated to land in 2027, will be its last.

TV Shows Watched: Big Mistakes: S1E7 (Netflix) with audio description, Deli Boys: S2E5 (Disney Plus) with audio description, Sheriff Country: S1E16 (Paramount) with audio description, Star City: S1E7 (Apple) with audio description, The Comeback: S1E13 (HBo MAX) with audio description, and Who Wants To Be A millionaire: S5E1 (Disney Plus) with audio description

Big Mistakes- 1 episode away from finishing the season. Thank God this is human. I at least started my day with wonderful, human written, human narrated audio description. So, the whole package is solid. And that last scene was nuts, so we definitely needed the description. I can’t wait to see how Dan Levy creatively crawls out of this.

Deli Boys- 1 more episode left here. It isn’t human, the writing isn’t terrible, and as we keep hearing what seems like a neverending onslaught of synthetics, it is a slightly more pleasant voice. However, with Netflix now starting to credit their TTS voices, this one must have a name as well. Shoutout to Omar Sharif for resurrecting from the dead to provide not just the quality of description we deserve, but that finishing touch of culturally appropriate. Part of me wonders if Deli Boys went to TTS… I mean Omar Sharif, because they couldn’t, or were too lazy, to figure out if they could find a narrator that matched the predominant ethnicity of the cast. I did think that, but then what would Disney’s reason be for the rest of the slop they’re commissioning?

Sheriff Country- Wes takes center stage as his co-op is taking off, helping all the growers in the area, at the time some evil corporation is trying to buy up their land. Wes gets caught up in some stuff, so the episode ends on a cliffhanger. I do love W Earl Brown in the role, but I love even more that Media Access Group is continuing to use humans. Keep up the good work guys.

Star City- I don’t love this nearly as much as I should, because it isn’t a space drama. It’s a “aren’t those Russians crazy” show, as we stand persistently horrified by the choices of a restrictive regime that punishes without reason, and because they can. They funnel everything through this one character, making her the most detestable person on the show. Rhys Ifans is the clear lead, and I keep wishing they’d focus more on him. Give me space, dammit. Also, mad props for some great human AD.

The Comeback- Lisa Kudrow is great. The show is funny and heartfelt, and I’m moving into Season 2, where I pray… please God… let them have hired someone else to do Season 2. This is one of the worst human AD tracks I’m listening to. It barely gives you anything. As infuriating as it is to hear Omar Sharif on Deli Boys, or Armie Hammer narrating X-Men 97, there’s nothing quite like being utterly abandoned by description, knowing that a better writer would have found more to bring out of even a challenging script like this.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire- Verb It has seemingly commissioned Kevin Spacey for the audio description for the new season of Millionaire. Verb It doesn’t credit anyone ever anyway, even if they are using a human, so until they can prove otherwise, Kevin Spacey is providing audio description for this… and many would say… how dare you. It is basic game show narration, which I assume Disney would never pay a human to do. They certainly did not for Celebrity Jeopardy, and this sounds like… Kevin Spacey. The inability or refusal to credit names makes me have to guess, and I guess I’m just not that great at it.

Best Audio Description- Big Mistakes- The whole package. Well written, beautifully narrated, had enough happening to make the AD necessary, and to have the team rise to meet the challenge. It narrowly beats Star City and Sheriff Country.

Worst AD- The Comeback- Despite Omar Sharif and Kevin Spacey, this AD actually is missing things left and right, and leaves open way too much to the imagination or interpretation. Is it fully negligent? No, but catching 1 out of every 10 things isn’t a success either. There isn’t much to describe on Millionaire, though Verb It pretty much provides crap 24/7, and Deli Boys is at least written well enough. So The Comeback, even with a human voice, loses. Again.
