X-Men 97: So we have some mistakes again. Come on, Deluxe. There’s a mixup between Rogue and Polaris, as in this Savage Land episode, Bishop and Polaris are paired off, and Rogue is with Nightcrawler. At the climax, when Bishop and Polaris destroy the inhibitor tower, there’s a hole blown through, and it says Bishop and Rogue are flying around outside. Rogue is in the courtroom with Nightcrawler. Polaris would be out there flying with Bishop. I hear far more synthetic voices than I’d like to, and this isn’t the worst synthetic voice, but here the problem isn’t even TTS. A human, without visual access to what they were reading, would have read the same thing. This is on the writer/QC. The totality of the work itself is on Disney, for defunding branded content and allowing TTS to proliferate on their content. That’s Disney’s fault. Mixing up characters is internal.
Nemesis- I still have no idea why Vito was chosen for Nemesis, but the writing of this episode isn’t bad.I thought the red dot thing was kinda silly. Nightmare (IYKYK) shot a guy in the head, and the AD called it a red dot. *Sigh*
Your Friends And Neighbors- Better AD here. The sex scenes here were described well, the trio of men that face off against Ash, that sequence was done well.And, this answers the question about who is coming back for Season 3.
Scarpetta- Sex and violence in the finale. Kay figures out which person has been doing the bad thing, and the episode ends with her beating the shit out of someone and then a door opens. Someone caught her. But, we have to wait till next season to find out who. This AD was fine. Lucy losing her mind this episode was tough to watch, as she has to go through grief one more time.
The Miniature Wife- Still two episodes left, and I’m still dragging along. The series isn’t as fun as it can or should be. Someone should remake this, and use it as a modern Bewitched or I Dream Of Jeannie. The AD here is She-Ra, and it is pretty mediocre, on a day full of mediocrity.
The Four Seasons- This one is pretty solid. There’s quite a bit of description here for what is essentially a half hour sitcom, single cam format. DVW, Jeff Heck, and Jazzy Frizzle have done lovely work all season long. I plan to review the season, since I’m not that big of a fan of the series, but I like the description.
Elzabeth- Anna Camp is a great guest star, but sometimes Elzabeth seems to grasp at straws that aren’t there. She does find a solid thread in there not being ammonia in the apartment, but the writers have to be careful to not make it look like Elzabeth sees murder everywhere. Also, not a happy ending. Six kids lose their mother, and are left with a heavily ill equipped father. We’re supposed to feel good about the ends to these, and I didn’t feel great here, even if the murderer does deserve to be caught. Putting a bit more of a somber tone on “what about the children” would ahve been a nice touch.
Best AD: Your Friends And Neighbors- I did really enjoy The Four Seasons, but this Apple drama had a lot of different stuff, from kidnapping, to sex, to the violent ending of the episode. It ran a gauntlet and the AD team kept up.
Worst AD: Since I’m not sure the voice on Miniature Wife is human, I can’t just bury X-men 97 for having synthetic. Yes, X-Men had that glitch, and Nemisis had a silly red dot, but I think Miniature Wife was the most underwhelming of all.
