The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/31/23

RIP Paul Reubens. Such an unexpected blow. For a lot of people my age, he really helped to shape our childhoods. His Playhouse was a magnificent ball of fun, and his movies certainly were head scratchers for critics, but not kids. Thanks for the laughs, pee Wee. you certainly had an awfully big adventure. 13) FUBAR (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed I’m not sure all the ideas are still working. Between a breakup, and then also being spurned by Alden, things aren’t looking up for one member who also ends the episode in a precarious position. Meanwhile, Arnie … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/31/23

It’s Too Early But We’re Doing This: The Best Actress Oscar Race

As everyone continues to discuss how the strike will effect the Oscar season, we have already gotten some answers. there have been some Oscar contenders that have already opened, and schedules for the Toronto and Venice film festivals have been announced in full, not to mention that Caanes already put some titles on the table, as did South by Southwest and Sundance. but, all is not perfect. Challengers, the newest Luca Guadanino film moved to 2024, and there are rumors that a push for Dune Part 2 is imminent. Already, Sony had to make changes, pushing titles back as a … Continue reading It’s Too Early But We’re Doing This: The Best Actress Oscar Race

She Loves Me

Where I Watched it: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No My second Broadway HD review. I suppose I should point out that the service is capable of audio description. I’ve found out that supposedly the production on Phantom Of The Opera and Romeo and Juliet have audio description. I’ll tackle that another day. but, one musical and one straight play does not inclusivity make. It’s tokenism, and somewhat offensively so if that’s their whole strategy. Two shows? If I only watched titles with audio description, I could knock those out in one day in like a free trial period. no … Continue reading She Loves Me

It’s a slow news day, but you know how all the streaming services have these random films that didn’t do well at the box office, or were even theatrically released, and were made years ago? I wonder why we can’t have a streamer that does that just for TV shows? Think of how many shows you’ve seen over the years that had short runs, or perhaps aired years ago, and currently don’t appear on a streaming service, but it would be fun to revisit those shows. if I can revisit a crappy 90’s flop, I should be able to revisit … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/30/23

They Cloned Tyrone

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description provided By: International Digital Center Written by: Liz gutman Narrated By Sri Gordon Every once in a while, netflix has an exclusive title worth watching. I know this had the unfortunate timing of dropping the same weekend of Barbenheimer but this is one of those rare Netflix films that makes your subscription worth it. If your monthly rate is that of a ticket price, Netflix just validated July. I will not say it is perfect, but for people who claim Hollywood isn’t making anything original anymore, They Cloned Tyrone feels like it … Continue reading They Cloned Tyrone

The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/29/23

I gotta be honest and say, that while i realize this strike is keeping people from working, I 100% support it until at least the studios give up on abusing the use of AI. honestly, I’m loving catching up on shows, and rewatching them. Even though Sony recently had to make a slew of changes to their release schedule, pushing back several films, there’s never been a better time to catch up on that one show (or multiple) that you just never watched but always meant to. 14) 8 Simple Rules (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Bridget … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/29/23

John Wick Chapter 4

Where I Watched it: ITunes/VOD English Audio Description Provided By Deluxe Narrated By Jedidiah Barton this might be the most audio description for a film ever. Granted, there are other movies where the audio description is non-stop, but this is also a long movie, tipping the scales at 2 hrs 45 minutes. And, they make sure to pack this film with action set piece after action set piece. After all, this is very likely the conclusion to this particular series, as they seem far more interested in spinoffs, like Peacock’s upcoming The Continental, or next summer’s ballerina. So, how does … Continue reading John Wick Chapter 4

After a day of some interesting news, the best thing I’ve got for you this morning is that hulu has cancelled Up Here after 1 season. I didn’t even finish that show, so no love lost here. 12) Mulligan (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not yet Renewed When trying to figure out who lands on the bottom, every once in a while I run into the problem of watching too much TV, and not really remembering something. All i remember was Tina Fey’s character yelling at someone to be a dumbass, and the Senator character joking about how Spanish … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/28/23

Influencer

Where I Watched it: AMC Plus (Shudder) English Audio Description?: No There’s likely a good concept in this film somewhere, but it’s hard to be able to determine that since Shudder and AMC Plus don’t feel that accessibility is a priority. What a shame. Influencer introduces us to a young girl in a foreign country, who meets and interesting new friend, and really anything beyond that is a spoiler. It’s a small cast film. The performances are Ok, given that the film is low budget with actors I’ve never heard of, though there was a guy who had a British … Continue reading Influencer

The Toxic Avenger: The Musical

Where I Watched It: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No Continuing to discuss the other streamers has led me to the legend…. The legend of the Toxic Avenger! In my free time, when I’m not reviewing films and yelling at the wind about audio description and accessibility, I work in live theatre. So, I’m a fan of shows like this. It’s not a big Broadway smash, but it has its fans along the lines of Evil Dead: The Musical. It also has a female lead character that is blind! So if there was ever a musical to take that plunge … Continue reading The Toxic Avenger: The Musical

I so rarely get TV news. Two stories in one day! First, Deadline has reported that the Emmy Awards are moving from September to an undetermined date in January. This means while other shows will likely be rewarding the current seasons of shows like The Bear and Only Murders in The Building, the Emmys are still rewarding the past earlier seasons. Also, HBo has renewed The Righteous Gemstones! 11) Dinosaurs (Disney plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Robbie likes a girl and takes dating advice from his dad, and some new kid Spike, who sounds like he’s being voiced … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/27/23

Plane

Where I Watched It: Starz English Audio Description?: No I’m continuing to branch out my reach and targeting more streaming services. if they want to exist in streaming wars, accessibility is key. Starz chose not to be accessible, so I choose to hold them accountable. Plus, Starz is under the Lionsgate umbrella, and guess who made Plane? One guess. Plane stars Joey Slotnick as a passenger on a plane that goes down in an unfortunate warlord situation. it is obviously up to Joey Slotnick to save the day, that’s why he’s in the film. Why else would you revive the … Continue reading Plane

The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/26/23

It’s kind of amazing how sloe the TV news is during the strike. It’s almost like all of the various streamers are angry at their shows, and can’t pick any of them up for another season. of course, they also can’t negotiate contracts with the actors, so there’s that too. 11) Skull Island (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown I think I keep hoping for that perfect magic that Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous gave me, but Skull Island is struggling to give me that balance. Some of the characters feel aimed at an older audience, while there’s still one … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/26/23

Birdbox: Barcelona

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description provided By Roundabout Entertainment Narrated By Elias. I somewhat remember the original Birdbox. it was back in the earlier days of Netflix producing movies when it seemed like they put more effort, especially when they landed a talent like Sandra Bullock. Now, it seems like just pushing out content is more important, with some exceptions made for the films that could get them in the Oscar race. It’s also important to remember all those sequels over the years where a great movie was made, and it was followed by a bafflingly awful … Continue reading Birdbox: Barcelona
