The Small Screen Diaries: The Weekly Rankings

Once again I’m running down the sixty shows on my broad watchlist. Joining the list this week, which was fairly slow for new shows, are The Sandman (Netflix), All Of Us Are Dead (Netflix), The Office (Peacock), Such Brave Girls (Hulu), Nautilus (AMC Plus), Dexter (Paramount Plus), and Prison Break (Netflix). I wrapped some shows, and anything that would rank outside the top 60 dies. WINNER: Squid Game (Netflix) with audio description- I knew I was going to lose my favorites. After the tragic uprising didn’t work last season, it meant playing out Squid Game till the end. I’m only … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: The Weekly Rankings

Migration

Illumination has struck again, much like the flock of geese struck that airplane Sully was flying. Migration is one of those animated films that follows the formula set by other films like it, but it isn’t sure where to make good choices. The end result is like playing Duck Hunt and missing all your shots. I skipped the theatrical release and waited for Peacock. I’m proud of that choice. Kumamoto Nanjiani plays the patriarch of a little duck family, with a wife (Elizabeth Banks), an uncle (Danny Devito) and two ducklings. He’s always been afraid his whole life of leaving … Continue reading Migration

The Beanie bubble

Where I Watched It: Apple Plus English Audio Description?: Yes Like most Americans who lived through the 90’s, I’m guilty of fads. Hell, even the 80’s. I’m not really sure at what point slap bracelets were a thing, but when they were, everyone had them. I had a Tamagotchi, even though it pooped a lot. I had Pogs even though no one really ever seemed to want to play or trade them. It was like everyone had them, but we didn’t know why we had them. And of course, I had Beanie Babies. i even had a couple from the … Continue reading The Beanie bubble

Cocaine Bear

Where I Watched it: peacock English Audio Description?: Yes I’m a fan of Elizabeth Banks as an actress, but as a director, she’s a bit more hit or miss. I’m not sure Cocaine Bear is going to put her on the map, but it could be a big bright new lane for her. Apparently there’s a thread of truth in this movie, just enough to make it “based on a true story”. It feels like the closest thing I’ve had to the self-awareness of Snakes On A Plane probably since The Happytime Murders. Something that knows exactly how absurd it … Continue reading Cocaine Bear

Call Jane

Where I Watched it: iTunes English Audio Description?: No This year, I was treated to a fantastic documentary that showed me a part of history I was unfamiliar with. That documentary is The Janes. So, I was interested in a fictional story based around the same concept, even if it didn’t have audio description. The cast here is great, so maybe that all will be enough. And for the most part, it was as good as it could be without audio description. The film centers around a woman who really isn’t necessarily looking to get an abortion until she’s told … Continue reading Call Jane
