The Electric State

The Electric State (Netflix)- Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Mackie Years ago I remember when Robopocalypse was being kicked around as a potential summer blockbuster, based on a best-selling novel. I believe Spielberg was actually interested at one time, but likely became more interested in ready Player One. Sometimes it is a blessing in disguise to not have your book turned into a film. I loved the ready Player One book, but not the film. Robopocalypse likely dodged a bullet. What didn’t dodge the bullet is the Electric State. While I have not read the source material, … Continue reading The Electric State

Abigail

I firmly believe this is one film that should be watched with you knowing as little about it as possible. The more you know, the less fun it is. It was clearly crafted that way, and the people who make trailers do not give a crap. I’ll spoil all day every day if the spoiler isn’t really a spoiler, or if the movie is god awful, or some slog that exists simply to have a twist, but Abigail is none of those things. I caught this on peacock, and without being too revealing, i thought the audio description was really … Continue reading Abigail

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/11/23

The Golden Globe nominations came out and several TV shows managed to work their way onto the list. But, mostly Succession. 1) Bodies (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited I’m enjoying the mystery of it all, but my complaint is the same. Even as the story impresses me, there are too many damn characters across too many timelines, and these episodes feel crammed and jumbled. I shouldn’t always be wondering who the hell someone is. but, every episode so far, I either wonder who they are, or what timeline we are in. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Billions (Paramount Plus) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/11/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/25/23

There are a lot of articles out there about “When is my favorite show coming back?” Presumably, once the leadership passes the tentative agreement on, they will lift the restrictions while WGA members vote on whether or not to approve. Right now, the only thing that has stopped is picketing. Since they were not technically being struck to begin with, those daytime talk shows that faced backlash could likely return next week, including Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Hudson. Matt Walsh is expected to dance tonight on Dancing With The Stars. The next set to resume will be the late night … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/25/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/27/23

And in the continuing saga of the paramount Purge, Paramount’s decision to murder inside Amy Schumer in cold blood has caused Comedy Central to scrap plans to have a cable run of the 5th season of the show. Wouldn’t it be crazy if this got en Emmy nomination in spite of all this disrespect? #8) Designing Women (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended The only guy of the group got himself into a little bit of trouble at the horse track. moral of this story, don’t go to the horse track. Episode Grade: B- 7) FUBAR (Netflix) English Audio … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/27/23

Beauty

Where I Watched It: Netflix Audio Description Provided By: Post haste Written By: William McDonaugh Narrated By: Laura Post We’ve seen so many stories about aspiring singers over the years, it’s become kind of impossible to do anything different. Yet, Lena Waithe tried to inject something different into this exhausting formula, but she just misses the mark. Really, everyone does. The film centers around a young girl who lives at home with her parents, learning how to sing from her mom (a pretty solid Niecy Nash), and elevating her career much to the delight of her typically evil, overbearing, and … Continue reading Beauty

Star girl

Starring: Grace Vander Waal, Graham Vercher, Giancarlo Esposito, and Darby Stanchfield. Directed By: Julia HArt Where I Watched it: Disney Plus English Audio Description Available?: Yes Description Provided By: Deluxe Description Narrated By: Laura Post The Plot: A boy (Vercher) narrates a story about this one time he had a free spirit named Stargirl (Vander Waal) that briefly attended his school. Love happens. What Works: It’s not terrible, but it feels like one of those teen movies we’re now getting because they are based on YA novels. So after you’ve stopped off at the kissing booth to tell all the … Continue reading Star girl
