A Real Pain

A Real Pain- Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin Are A Perfect Pairing Quick Take: This viewing was without audio description, as I was provided a screener for this title. Jesse Eisenberg wrote, directed, and stars in one of the best films of the year. It is such a simple film, and the second this year with this theme. eisenberg and Kieran Culkin play cousins who are finally getting around to taking a trip to Poland that their recently deceased Grandmother wanted them to take, so they can see where she grew up under Nazi occupation. Eisenberg and Culkin bounce off … Continue reading A Real Pain

the Small Screen Diaries- 02/02/24

Today, I finally found out how Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix) ended, and I’m not sure what a second season would look like. The adventure is always in getting Scott and Ramona together, so unless they keep telling alternate versions of that story, they’d likely be together in another season. So I fully support the creators intent of this being a limited series. Has Been Hotel (Amazon) crossed into trust building. The songs are silly. This is still a show I like but don’t love, though I give it props for being unlike anything else on the market, and also … Continue reading the Small Screen Diaries- 02/02/24

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

As promised, I tackled Echo (Disney Plus), but just the first episode. I’m not a huge fan of the binge watch. I like to savor my shows, especially ones with only 5 episodes, and the next Marvel show is quite far off. I thought it was a strong start, but it didn’t break into the top echelon of Marvel shows for me, which really no one has ever topped WandaVision. Some critics have hailed it as what Marvel needs right now, and I say it could ahve been, if they had let Echo stand on her own in the pilot, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/21/23

Jake Johnson mentioned yesterday that he does not believe Starz will renew Minx. I’m telling you, it’s the only reason I haven’t cancelled yet. I’m living on a prayer. The good news is that they immediately cancelled and pulled Heels right after the finale, and cancelled shining Veil immediately, so the fact they are even thinking about minx means it has a shot. 1) Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix) English Audio Description Provided By: XTraX Status: Limited Well, the second episode is weird. Scott is *spoiler*, and the episode focuses almost entirely on the evil ex group and a power … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/21/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/17/23

It’s too close to Christmas for any good TV news. 1) Scott Pilgrim Takes off (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited The creators of this show have already said they have no plans for a second season, but this basically is a remake of the film, just done in a different style. I really liked it, and I was happy to hear many of the original voice cast. It has such a strong anime flavor to it, it feels very different from the film. And, it will run longer than the movie, giving us more time to explore these … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/17/23

40 For 40: Part 2

Keeping in line with my 40th birthday this year, here is the second list of films I watched. I’m trying to cast a wide net and bring in multiple streamers, but peacock refuses to host audio description for Universal titles not made in the last 3 years. So just like the first ten, one of these does not have audio description. This list spans films I saw over June and July, so it is possible that some have left the service listed. While there are numbers, this is not a rank of my favorites from best to worst, but rather … Continue reading 40 For 40: Part 2

The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/01/23

Well, started off my morning with shitty news. Apple Plus has cancelled high Desert. honestly, I understand it. The pilot was off putting initially, but once you get past it, Patricia Arquette is doing a hell of a job keeping this thing together. And, Matt Dillon and Brad Garrett do a pretty decent job supporting her. I would have probably renewed this, and I’m sad to see this character go, but Apple released a lot of comedies in the Spring, and right after this was Platonic, which is a better show and really deserves a second season. Shrinking and The … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/01/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/24/23

A couple of things. First, I have not properly given a shoutout to Tubi, which is now offering a select number of titles with audio description. This is their first month, and they already have surpassed AMC Plus. Hah. I do plan on watching something from them soonish to support their new offerings, and give a review on how easy it is to access it. You can find a list of titles where you can find all the lists of titles for all the streaming services. The Audio Description project: adp.acb.org Second, congrats to Bupkus on a second season renewal. … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/24/23

Well, NBC has opted to not renew American Auto after all. Looks like a solid victim of the writers strike, as they needed to either extend contracts at the end of the month, or cancel. However, MAX is sticking with Velma. 15) The Adventures Of The Gummi Bears (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Consistently ranking low, this nostalgic trip hasn’t quite worked out. This was the 7th episode, and I’m trying to get at least 10 in so i have that fully revived memory. This one was mostly about adopting an abandoned wolf cub. Episode Grade: C … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/16/23

Yesterday, the first in a trio of finales hit the TV world as Maisel fans said goodbye to their favorite program. Coming up, in less than a week, are the series finales of Succession and Ted Lasso. It’s a sad week. 11) The Adventures of The Gummi Bears (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Despite my love of this show when I was a kid, this third episode did absolutely nothing for me.Part 1 involved a surprisingly friendly dragon, and part 2 involved… well… I don’t know because it was hard to follow without audio description. But one … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/26/23

Happy Mother’s Day to all those out there who need to hear that. No big news today. That’s it. It’s just Mother’s Day. 13) Family Matters (HBo MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Ended Look at HBO getting that AD on Family Matters. It’s been a long time since I’ve watched this show, and I’m not sure I ever saw the pilot. Of course, Family Matters was one of those shows that changed so much as the show progressed. Laura has almost no screentime in the pilot, I forgot she had a younger sister. Steve Urkel doesn’t exist. This is … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/13/23
