The Small Screen Diaries: 07/31/25

TV Shows Watched: Building The Band: S1E10 (Netflix) with audio description, The buccaneers: S2E2 (Apple Plus) with audio description, The Wonderfully Weird World Of Gumball: S1E1 (Hulu) with audio description, FUBAR: S2E8 (Netflix) with audio description, and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: S4E2 (Hulu) with audio description Building The Band- I’m not doing a full review, because reviewing reality television seems like the equivalent of reviewing fast food. It’s easily accessible and not actually good for you. The audio description continued to be excellent, highlighting the final performances, and the last little touching moment with Liam Payne. As a series, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 07/31/25

The instigators

This has been a weird year for Apple Studios. It follows after they tried to make some box office headway last year with their major Oscar releases Killers Of The Flower Moon and Napoleon to middling results. Then, Argylle flopped, I’m not sure Fancy Dance had much more than a qualifying run, and The Instigators basically got the same treatment, though isn’t an awards contender. Doug Liman is reteaming with Matt Damon after kicking off the Jason Bourne franchise with him 22 years ago, and it also marks his second directorial effort after Amazon’s road House remake. The Instigators also … Continue reading The instigators

Drive Away Dolls

Now that we’ve officially seen what Joel Coen does by himself, and Ethan by himself, I think we can all agree that the Coen brothers are far better as a team than in their individual pursuits. Often, The Coen Brothers find films that offer that slice of Americana, with some small town personality, and quirky characters. So then what went wrong. Is it simply that Ethan Coen can’t do this by himself, or that he attempted to do a niche 90’s lesbian road trip comedy? The good news, is that this film does have audio description, and the description is … Continue reading Drive Away Dolls

Interstellar

Where I Watched it: Amazon English Audio Description Provided By Deluxe Narrated By Tanzi Alexander I actually started rewatching all of Nolan’s films this year when I was asked to be a guest on a podcast, so I could discuss how Nolan’s films are great, and how they translate in terms of audio description. Since I’ve only been blind for the past six years, it means most of his catalog was available to me in their initial runs visually. So, I’ve seen interstellar, and I’m fairly certain a deep dive on my site will reveal my initial thoughts. I remember … Continue reading Interstellar

Oppenheimer

Where I Watched it: In Theatres (Regal) English Audio Description?: Yes Narrated By: Laura Post Well, that was an experience. For those of you who notice I do not review content while in theatres a lot anymore might catch, I actually went for Oppenheimer. mostly because i am an invited guest on a podcast I’m recording next week, and i was specifically asked to watch Oppenheimer. Not only did I need multiple headset replacements, but the headset audio quality sounded like laura Post was talking to me from beyond the grave. I get better quality and consistency at home. I … Continue reading Oppenheimer

40 For 40: Part 2

Keeping in line with my 40th birthday this year, here is the second list of films I watched. I’m trying to cast a wide net and bring in multiple streamers, but peacock refuses to host audio description for Universal titles not made in the last 3 years. So just like the first ten, one of these does not have audio description. This list spans films I saw over June and July, so it is possible that some have left the service listed. While there are numbers, this is not a rank of my favorites from best to worst, but rather … Continue reading 40 For 40: Part 2

Air

Where I Watched it: Amazon English Audio Description Provided By: Media Access Group Narrated by: Inger Tudor Generally by the time I get around to the print versions of my reviews, I’m always a little bit behind my YouTube channel. It’s just so much easier to record and upload, than to construct my thoughts while fighting aggressive auto-correct, and a screen reader that often reads a word that sounds so much like the word I meant to use. But, even with the few more 2023 films I’ve seen since Air, it’s still at number one for me for the year. … Continue reading Air

Downsizing

Where I Watched It: Amazon English Audio Description?: Yes I missed this one when it came out. It’s a perfect example of a good on paper Oscar contender that ends up not really materializing into anything. For a while, as the campaign stripped away, it looked like hong Chou might get a supporting nomination, but that never panned out. Years later, and I’m finally watching Alexander Payne’s odd social commentary…with audio description! And, human audio description on Amazon! There are miracles. They do happen. Matt Damon leads an ensemble cast in a quirky comedy about a future where we have … Continue reading Downsizing

Stillwater

Where I Watched It: Paramount Plus English Audio Description?: Yes Matt Damon stars in this odd little film about a father from Oklahoma who basically upends his life and moves to France where his daughter (Abigail Breslin) is in jail for murder. However, their system is totally different, and she’s pretty close to being able to get out. Meanwhile, she insists she’s innocent, and there’s a guy that she believes killed the victim, if only Matt Damon can find him. In the meantime, he uses his Oklahoma dialect to entrance the French population, and make a friend, even fall in … Continue reading Stillwater

The Last Duel

Starring: Matt Damon, Adam Driver, Jodi Comer, Harriet Walter, and Ben Affleck. Directed By Ridley Scott Where i Watched it: HBO MAX English Audio Description Available?: Yes The Plot:What a hard movie to market. This story revolves around a knight (Damon), his former squire (Driver), and the titular duel that comes about after a dispute involving the rape of the latter’s wife (Comer). And it is set in the 1300’s, during the reign of Charles VI. What Works: I remember when this film was released theatrically in October, and it bombed. To be honest, I keep my ear to the … Continue reading The Last Duel
