Movies With Pride: A Single Man

As pride month continues, I really wanted to take a look at something that I had not seen in years, but remained striking. I’ve seen and already reviewed films that are near and dear, but Tom Ford’s A Single Man isn’t something I have a nostalgic attachment for, but rather just something that the question is does it hold up on the second viewing? Now that I’m blind, I’ve experienced films differently, in both ways. Some films seem to get better, particularly films with strong violence that might have been a turnoff. Not being able to see gore allows me … Continue reading Movies With Pride: A Single Man

Freud’s Last Session

This wound up on Netflix, after previously having a VOD run. I didn’t see audio description for this when i wanted to rent it, and Netflix didn’t pick up a track for it. However, I’m a fan of Anthony Hopkins, and I really thought this film would be just a long conversation between Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis. It’s not. You actually need the audio description. While the movie does imagine what a conversation would be like between Freud (played by Anthony Hopkins) and Lewis (played by Matthew Goode), as they debate faith and the human condition at the onset … Continue reading Freud’s Last Session

The Too Much TV Roundup- July 24th

I finally got around to starting a few new shows, as well as getting back into Evil (so I’m a little behind this season). But with the new shows, which one managed to top the list? 1) The Orville (Hulu) English Audio Description Available?: Yes Well, I rarely head with a spoiler warning, but we need to talk about this Season premiere. First, it’s been a minute since we’ve had the pleasure of the crew from The Orville after it moved to hulu. Covid delays and such. I’m actually surprised at the amount of people I know watching this. I … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- July 24th

The Too Much TV Roundup- July 17th

It seems like a lot of TV until you realize how many of these are actually half hour shows. 1) Girls5Eva (Peacock) English Audio Description Available?: Yes It takes a lot to dethrone my pick for Best Comedy, something that manages to elude Emmy voters (probably because it’s on Peacock). In the 7th episode, Wiki fell for a Lunch lord who she thought would be her basic whisperer and teach her the ways common folk think. Add to that an always a welcome appearance by Andrew Rannells, and a song that was basically just the girls asking each other if … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- July 17th

The Too Much TV Roundup- June 26th

A near perfect day of TV show watching. If only The Offer could nail those impressions. 1) Girls5Eva (Peacock) English Audio description Available?: Yes The Girls take on different challenges, but what gets served up most is now that Summer is single again, her parents are rolling back into town to protect her purity. But, when she learns her parents haven’t always been so… pure, will she keep her pledge? Episode Grade: A 2) Undone (Amazon) English Audio Description Available?: Yes I really enjoyed Season 1, and I just assumed I’d never see it again. Then Amazon stuck with this … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- June 26th

The Too Much TV Roundup- June 19th

Today, I put myself in the position of having to choose between some heavy hitters for the top spot. Let’s just accept that this was a great day for television, for me at least. 1) Hacks (HBO MAX) English Audio Description Available?: Yes In the 4th episode of season,Deborah finds out she’s been booked on a lesbian cruise, which causes her to need to examine her material as she is very aware that lesbians do not like her. After making the effort to have fun, Deborah starts to believe that this might be her community after all, but she still … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- June 19th

The King’s Man

Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Harris Dickenson, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Djimon Honshuu, Charles Dance, and Daniel Bruhl. Directed By Matthew Vaughn Where I Watched It: HBO MAX (though I saw it’s also on Hulu) English Audio Description Available?: Yes. The plot: A look back in time to the formation of the secret service known as the Kingsmen. This finds Orlando (Fiennes) facing off against an enemy hell bent on taking over the world. You know, typical World War stuff. Except, Rasputin (Ifans) is involved. What Works: I have to be honest and say that I was surprised that Matthew … Continue reading The King’s Man
