We Have Always Lived In The Castle

Sometimes I still review a film without audio description. This popped up on Hulu, and Hulu and IMDB can’t seem to agree on when this was released. It might qualify as 2024, but probably not. This is a weird little thriller about two sisters, played by Alexandra Daddario and Taissa Farmiga, who lose their father and live in a time when women need men to guide them. They have an uncle (Crispin Glover) who is certifiable, but seems like a nice guy, and then in comes a cousin (Sebastian Stan) who may have ulterior motives. Reasons for audio description: 1) … Continue reading We Have Always Lived In The Castle

Dumb Money

Where I Watched It: Apple VOD (iTunes) English Audio Description Provided By The Media Access Group Narrated By: Ingir Tudor Cast: Paul Dañó, Seth Rogen, America Ferrera, Shailene Woodley, Anthony Ramos, Pete Davidson, Vincent D’Onofrio, Sebastian Stan, Dane DeHaan, and Olivia Thirlby. Written By: Lauren Shukart-Blum Directed By: Craig Gillespie The immediate and obvious comparison that I’m sure comes to everyone’s mind is The Big Short. Take the housing collapse of 2008, expose it, and explain it so anyone in the audience can understand the ins and outs. It’s one of the reasons The big Short did so well with … Continue reading Dumb Money

Sharper

Where I Watched it: Apple plus English Audio Description?: Yes Yes, i did watch this A24 Apple release. it does make me wonder how an A24 became an Apple exclusive, but i went in with the best foot forward on this one. I recently read a scathing column about critics, and how insignificant we are, and what it is that we do. I suppose, we give our thoughts about a film from our perspective, to help people decide how to spend their limited time? For me, I usually focus on the audio description, and how that applies to my experience. … Continue reading Sharper

Fresh

Starring: Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sebastian Stan, and Jojo T Gibbs. Directed by: Mimi Cave Where I Watched it: Hulu English Audio Description Available?: Yes The plot: I didn’t bother to watch a trailer for this, but even I could figure out what “unusual eating habits” meant. So, if you think this is a spoiler, you don’t watch enough movies. The film centers around a woman (Edgar-Jones) who is trying to navigate a seemingly awful dating scene when she encounters a charming man (Stan), who invites her away for a little trip on their second date, which is bad for her, because … Continue reading Fresh

The Too Much TV Roundup

With all of the many platforms we have to watch television programs, from regular networks, to cable and premium channels, and a wide array of streaming channels, there has never been this much TV created for our own enjoyment. Starting this week, I plan to offer a glimpse into some of the shows I’m checking out, good or bad. I do not binge shows, so I might not be fully through a show whose entire season dropped at one point, and thanks to the tons of programs I do watch, I might “be behind”. I am watching a lot of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup
