Confess Fletch

Where I Watched It: Paramount Plus with Showtime English Audio Description Available?: No Just to be clear, I realize that just yesterday I refused to review Weird, but those were different circumstances. Instead of writing another tirade about how I won’t review a film when someone refuses to add audio description, I’ll say up front that this lack of audio description presented a different problem we blind folk encounter. What happens when you are about to watch a movie with other people, and the movie they want to watch doesn’t have audio description? That’s why I push for 100%, because … Continue reading Confess Fletch

The Contractor

Where I Watched It: Look, the film is on Showtime, and I have a subscription. Did I have to “find” the audio description elsewhere? Sure. But, I technically have access to this film through my paid subscription to Showtime. English Audio Description Available?: Again, if you can find it. Description Provided By: Pixel Logic Narrated By: Laura Post What really is there to say about The Contractor? Not much. It’s a pretty generic paint-by-numbers action film that worked well for what it set out to achieve. Considering there are generations of people still watching films in the Sniper universe (a … Continue reading The Contractor

The Too Much TV Roundup- June 26th

I have nothing snarky to start this post today. Really. I don’t. 1) Hacks (HBo MAX) English Audio Description Available?: Yes This show is continued brilliance. This episode saw the gang at a state fair, and I don’t know which moment was funnier. Seeing Ava choke on one vitamin, or her comment about the 800 dollar pair of shoes that she knew would help get that Susan lady some serious commission. Great episode. Episode Grade: A 2) Breeders (FX/hulu) English Audio Description Available?: No I need to sit down in a room with the Emmy voters. We have to talk … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- June 26th

The Too Much TV Roundup- June 18th

I definitely watched too much TV on a rainy Saturday. 1) Gaslit (Starz) English Audio Description Available?: No I hate to put. Shows that don’t have audio description on top, but there was no denying the penultimate hour of Gaslit, which should serve as a For Your Consideration reel for the series two leads, Julia Roberts and Sean Penn, whose marriage finally comes to a screeching halt as secrets are revealed, and things are said that can’t be unsaid. Robert’s performance in this series is brilliance, but Penn brings a new raging fire to Mitchell, attacking for dominance. He’s scary … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- June 18th

The Too Much TV Roundup- June 11th

I’m too intimidated by Homelander to rank these shows any other way. 1) The Boys (Amazon) English Audio Description Available?: Yes In the fourth episode, the stakes are raised. Homelander is becoming the biggest problem he’s been since the show started, making him an obvious choice for a final battle at the end of the season. Maybe Homelander won’t make it out of Season 3. But if he has to go, what could possibly replace him? Episode Grade: A 2) Roar (Apple Plus) English Audio Description Available?: Yes In the second outing, which dealt with memory loss, what could have … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- June 11th

The Too Much TV Roundup- May 21st

Yesterday, I watched quite a bit of non-described programming with my mom, who tries her best to let me know what’s happening. But, there’s a very small overlap in the Venn Diagram of shows we both enjoy. Here are my rankings from yesterday. 1) Hacks (HBO MAX) English Audio Description Available?: Yes Kicking off Season 2 officially, this series is just as hilarious as ever, and jean smart is living the role of her lifetime. Hopefully, this show wil stay on as long as the writing is good. Episode Grade: A 2) The Marvelous Ms Maisel (Amazon) English Audio Description … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- May 21st

The Too Much tV Roundup- May 14th

This felt like a really good day full of some good television, for the most part.Trying to figure out who got the top spot was a big challenge this day. 1) Reacher (amazon) English Audio Description Available?: Yes Look, I’m behind. I know. I didn’t rush on Reacher since it got a second season renewal almost immediately. So this was Episode 5 for me, and I seem to keep getting surprised by this show. The stakes keep changing, the bar keeps getting reset, and Reacher is by far one of the best new shows I’ve seen in a long time. … Continue reading The Too Much tV Roundup- May 14th

The Too Much TV Roundup

It’s Monday again, and that means it’s time for me to drop my top 10 picks from the television I watched last week. I’m going to spoil the surprise and say that I’m far enough behind I didn’t even bother starting the final seasons of Ozark or Grace and Frankie yet. There’s just TOO MUCH TV! 1) Better Things (FX/Hulu) English Audio Description Available?: No Just like I started last week’s list off by bidding Black-ish farewell, I’m starting this week by saying goodbye to Pamela Adlon’s Better Things. it’s never been my favorite show, but I’ve always thought she … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup

Zola, The Humans, and What They Are Like Without Audio Description

To be fair to the original filmmakers, this should not constitute an actual review of either film and whether or not it is good. It just serves as a reminder of why audio description is sometimes paramount, even in English language titles. I attempted to watch both films, because they both were “in the Oscar conversation” this year, with Zola just winning awards at the independent Spirit Awards on Sunday, and The Humans being an adaptation of a Tony award winning play. I’m sure both are good, but I can’t give you that stamp of approval. What I Knew About … Continue reading Zola, The Humans, and What They Are Like Without Audio Description

The too Much TV Roundup

A day late and a dollar short. Changing up the format a bit. Previously, I just ran down the streaming services and picked a show. Now, I’ll just be doing the top 10 programs that hit me one way or the other in the last 7 days. Remember, I don’t binge watch. So, some of these might be a bit old, and you might already be done, or even behind where I’m at. Thanks to peak tV. 1) The Walking Dead (AMC/AMC Plus) English Audio Description Available?: Frustratingly, no. It’s always bothered me that this show doesn’t feature audio description … Continue reading The too Much TV Roundup

Attica

Documentary Directed By Stanley Nelson and Traci Curry Where I Watched It: Amazon (Though it expires in a few days, it is also available on Showtime as of this review) English Audio Description Available?: Sadly, No. The Plot: Explores the infamous prison takeover by the inmates at Attica in New York, using interviews from several different viewpoints, including a few survivors, to remind and educate its audience about what should not be soon forgotten, and shows the parallels of problems with the prison complex system back then, and how very little has changed today. Why It Works: I have to … Continue reading Attica

Old Henry

Starring: Tim Blake Nelson, Scott Hayes, Trace Adkins, Stephen Dorff, and Gavin Lewis. Directed By Poncy Ponciroli Where I Watched It: Showtime English Audio Description Available?: Showtime never offers AD, and looking at this through video on demand services, this film has no audio description currently. The Plot:A western of sorts that finds a seemingly run of the mill farmer named Henry (Nelson) take in a wounded stranger (Hayes). However, things may not be all they seem, and Henry may have a particular set of skills. If you get what I’m saying. When a tiny but mighty posse rolls up, … Continue reading Old Henry
