Going In blind: Presence

First Person Audio description is so interesting. I loved how Nickel Boys navigated the complexities of the perspective being one of the characters in the film, with other characters interacting with you. Presence, directed by Steven Soderbergh, feels like a departure from his typical fare, and also serves as further exploration of first person audio description. Universal Studios, the theme park element, was built on the idea that you can “ride the movies”. Now, with the right VR headset and a good first person movie, you can live the movies. In Presence, you wouldn’t exactly be alive. What makes Presence … Continue reading Going In blind: Presence

The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/05/23

NCIS has an Australian spinoff that is now slated to air in Primetime this fall. So, get ready for NCIS Sydney. No, I’m not joking. 10) 10) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Revival Just Ended This time it wasn’t just the shootouts that rendered this episode unwatchable, but also a car explosion. Did it kill anyone? It sounded like Neal McDonaugh was in a car, got out, and then it exploded. I would think he would be standing too close. But I don’t know, because this show is inaccessible. I’m just here to pick up as much of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/05/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/29/23

While not TV news, I am always looking around the inter webz for Oscar thoughts, and I do love the people predicting the Oscars who acknowledge that it’s weird that everyone is predicting the same things. I know, which is why I’m actually trying not to. This time last year, we had Tom Cruise and Hugh Jackman as frontrunners. Certainly no one expected Andrea Riseborough, and after everyone saw Blonde, it was assumed to be dead in the race. Brian Tyree Henry seemed like an impossible nominee, and most people still had Paul Dano. I don’t believe Michelle Williams declared … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/29/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/15/23

I saw a glimmer of TV news that reminded me that ABC’s limbo shows are all still in limbo. Decisions have not been made yet firmly on a second season of The Rookie Feds, a fourth season of Home Economics, or a first season of the Good Doctor spinoff The Good Lawyer. Technically, the only one whose cast is still held is The Rookie Feds, however, SAG has in their strike rules that when a strike occurs, deals like this that are in place essentially will give an extension of how many days were left at the time of the … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/15/23

Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Where I Watched It: MAX English Audio Description?: Yes Lots of missed opportunities here. I really don’t know why Steven Soderbergh is back in the director’s chair, but there’s something very disconcerting about the once revered director saying No to the second film, but being hungry enough to do the third. This man directed sex, lies, and videotape, Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Traffic, and knew making George Clooney be Danny Ocean was a great idea. The fact that he came back for what is essentially the Tokyo Drift of the franchise is disappointing. Last Dance revolves around the idea … Continue reading Magic Mike’s Last Dance

Magic Mike

Where I Watched it: HBo MAX English Audio Description Provided By: The Media Access group Narrated by Gale Lee Hideman Not my first rodeo with Magic Mike. I’m certain there’s a review on here from back when I could see, which is a totally different experience. While I have spent the past few years remembering magic Mike as being mediocre at best, on the rewatch I actually found that I enjoyed it a lot more than I remembered. I decided to dive back into this franchise because i thought Magic Mike’s last Dance would have a 45 day window. I … Continue reading Magic Mike

Kimi

Starring: Zoey Kravitz, Erika Christensen, Rita Wilson, Jaime Camill, and Devin Rattray. Directed By: Steven Soderbergh Where I Watched It: HBO MAX English Audio Description Available?: Yes The plot: Angela (Kravitz) works from home , in an age of covid, where her job is analyzing data for an Alexa/Siri like entity called Kimi. While doing her job, she comes across an audio clip that convinces her someone was just murdered. And then the film gets all twisty. What Works: If I was all certified and stuff on Rotten Tomatoes, I would want my little blurb to be “a delightfully magical … Continue reading Kimi

‘Behind The Candelabra’ hits record for HBO movies

Steven Soderbergh’s Behind The Candelabra logged 2.4 million viewers on Sunday, which is the highest viewership for an HBO original movie since 2004’s Something The Lord Made, which was seen by 2.6 million viewers. HBO’s last biopic, Phil Spector, starring Al Pacino, managed only 754K for its first airing, in comparison. Including the 11PM replay, Behind The Candelabra had a total of 3.5 million viewers on Sunday night. The Michael Douglas/Matt Damon movie is certain to be rewatched several times as it continues to steamroll competition on its way to Emmy night.
