Lift

Sometimes, i don’t mind seeing a film just a little bit after the flood of critics and online haters. It really gives me perspective. I always approach every movie as neutral as possible, but often, the crowd is right. Maybe not quite to the extremes. While I didn’t really care for either Meg 2 or The Expend4bles, I definitely saw worse last year. Lift was getting that kind of bad press, and I’m going to lightly disagree. It’s not worth fighting over, but in a rotten/fresh, thumbs down/up world, I’d recommend this over not recommending it. Kevin Hart leads an all-star … Continue reading Lift

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

As promised, I tackled Echo (Disney Plus), but just the first episode. I’m not a huge fan of the binge watch. I like to savor my shows, especially ones with only 5 episodes, and the next Marvel show is quite far off. I thought it was a strong start, but it didn’t break into the top echelon of Marvel shows for me, which really no one has ever topped WandaVision. Some critics have hailed it as what Marvel needs right now, and I say it could ahve been, if they had let Echo stand on her own in the pilot, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

Take the housing collapse of 2008, expose it, and explain it so anyone in the audience can understand the ins and outs. It’s one of the reasons The big Short did so well with … Continue reading Dumb Money

The Eyes Of Tammy Faye

Starring: Jessica Chastain, Andrew Garfield, Cherry jones, Vincent D’Onofrio Directed By Michael Showalter Where I Watched It: HBO MAX English Audio Description Available?: Yes The Plot: A rather endearing and sympathetic biopic about Tammy Faye Bakker (Chastain), from her life as a little girl, brought up with a deep religious conviction, and later introduced to the charismatic Jim (Garfield), who has some very interesting ideas about preaching and wealth. Which, of course, leads to his eventual downfall. Along the way, we see them interact with lovely human beings like Jerry Falwell (D’Onofrio). What Works: Showalter has decided to share his … Continue reading The Eyes Of Tammy Faye

The Unforgivable

Starring: Sandra Bullock, Viola Davis, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal Directed By Nora Finkshite Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes The Plot: Sandra Bullock plays a woman recently released from prison after serving 20 years, and attempts to rejoin a society that overwhelmingly makes it a seemingly impossible task. The film also explores the victim’s surviving family, and their reaction to her getting released on parole. The film takes these two stories already deeply intertwined, and twists them further. What Works: I know Netflix can’t offer every single one of their exclusive titles an Oscar qualifying run, but … Continue reading The Unforgivable
