Box Office Predictions- 5/17-5/19
1) Star Trek: Into Darkness- 85M weekend, 110M total Star Trek technically opens on Thursday, which I think could lead to about 25M in sales. I can’t find any info on midnight screenings, now that they moved up to Thursday, but I would safely add another 5M to that if there were midnights tomorrow night. The first Star Trek opened to 75M, and it’s safe to say it was a crowd-pleaser. There should be more first week business as people have realized that this new series is really good, and accessible to even non-trekkies. Some competition still exists from Iron … Continue reading Box Office Predictions- 5/17-5/19

Weekend Box Office- May 10th-12th- Gatsby Dramatically Overperforms
Even the most aware box office predictors weren’t predicting Gatsby’s phenomenal opening. Most of us had a realistic idea of how many people Baz Luhrmann could appease, and it was nowhere near 50 million. 1) Iron Man 3- 72.4 weekend, 284.8 total It didn’t quite meet my expectation of a 78 million weekend, but it held OK, dropping only 58% in week two. It still proved to be the movie to beat, though all that will change next weekend with Star Trek: Into Darkness cutting into the box office. 2) The Great Gatsby- 51.1 weekend, 51.1 total Massive. I would … Continue reading Weekend Box Office- May 10th-12th- Gatsby Dramatically Overperforms

Arthur Christmas
WITH THE VOICES OF: James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Bill Nighy, Jim Broadbent, Imelda Staunton WRITTEN BY: Peter Baynham and Sarah Smith DIRECTED BY: Sarah Smith and Barry Cook So, I definitely did not watch this movie during the Holiday season. Sometimes though, halfway through the year, you can enjoy a nice holiday pick-up, like a reminder that Christmas is coming. Arthur Christmas was a nice reminder of that. Somewhere nestled between other Christmas classics likeĀ Polar Express and How The Grinch Stole Christmas is now Arthur Christmas, despite its depressingly low box office. Only 48 million? Really? This film deserved … Continue reading Arthur Christmas
Projected FOX Lineup- Fall 2013/Spring 2014
Here’s where I believe the FOX lineup will land, now that they have announced their new show pickups: MONDAY: 800- BONES/ RAKE (midseason) 900- GANG RELATED/ THE FOLLOWING (midseason) TUESDAY: 800-BROOKLYN NINE-NINE 830- ENLISTED 900- THE NEW GIRL 930- US & THEM/ MINDY PROJECT (MIDSEASON) WEDNESDAY: 800- X-FACTOR/ AMERICAN IDOL 930- SURVIVING JACK (MIDSEASON) THURSDAY 800- X-FACTOR RESULTS 900- GLEE FRIDAY 800- SLEEPY HOLLOW 900- ALMOST HUMAN SUNDAY 800- THE SIMPSONS 830- BOB’S BURGERS 900- FAMILY GUY 930- AMERICAN DAD/ SONS (MIDSEASON) I think Raising Hope will be used to plug a hole. It’s a pretty solid sitcom, but it … Continue reading Projected FOX Lineup- Fall 2013/Spring 2014
Graceland- Pilot Review
STARRING: Aaron Tviet, Daniel Sunjata, Vanessa Ferlito, Brandon Jay McLaren, Manny Montana, Scottie Thompson DIRECTED BY: Renny Harlin Last summer, USA unsuccessfully debuted two new series. One was Common Law, the other was Political Animals. So, Graceland has a lot riding on its back, in order to break the trend of being cancelled. This new series has me curious about future episodes, but I’m also worried about longevity. USA shows thrive on unique engaging characters, and Graceland doesn’t have anything you haven’t seen before, nor does it have “bold” character choices. Mike Warren (Tviet) is a brand new FBI agent … Continue reading Graceland- Pilot Review
Box Office Predictions- May 10th-12th- Gatsby Aims For 2nd
This weekend, Iron Man 3 faces some competition from Leonardo DiCaprio’s Great Gatsby. Gatsby isn’t typical summer fare, and targets the demo that made The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Moonrise Kingdom sleeper hits last summer. The difference here is that Gatsby is going wide. No surprise, since it has a bonafide star in DiCaprio. My predictions below: 1) Iron Man 3- 77M, 305-315M total. Iron Man is virtually unstoppable. Normally, big films crumble though in their second week, simply because of heavy upfront business. The first Iron Man dropped a respectable 48%, Iron Man 2 dipped 59%. This one … Continue reading Box Office Predictions- May 10th-12th- Gatsby Aims For 2nd
Movie Review: Iron Man 3
STARRING: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall, Ben Kingsley, Jon Faverau, James Badge Dale, William Sadler, Dale Dickey, Ty Simpkins, and Miguel Ferrer WRITTEN BY: Drew Pearce and Shane Black. DIRECTED BY: Shane Black First off. Mad props for a studio taking a risk on Shane Black, because he is a fantastic director. Sure, he wrote some shitty films, but he directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which is a great film. It demands your attention. It’s possible that this entry is the best in the franchise, moreso because there is a great plot twist that … Continue reading Movie Review: Iron Man 3
