Some heavy hitters here. Richard Jenkins for Olive Kitteridge, Chiwetel Ejiofor for Nightingale, and Ricky Gervais for Derek, should all get nominations. The last two spots… maybe Mark Rylance for Wolf Hall, or Adrien Brody for Houdini. There’s also Bill Paxton for Texas Rising, Timothy Hutton for American Crime, Nathan Lane for The Nance, and Ryan Phillippe for Secrets and Lies. American Horror Story: Freak Show can’t be counted out either, with Evan Peters running in lead.
I’d have to go with Peters myself, alongside Jenkins, Oyelowo, Lane, and Peter Sarsgaard for The Slap.
For Actress, Frances McDormand is guaranteed a nomination for Olive Kitteridge, Queen Latifah is for Bessie, and so is Maggie Gyllenhall for The Honorable Woman. Jessica Lange is a strong contender for American Horror Story: Freak Show, which leaves one spot remaining. Will it be Felicity Huffman for American Crime? Juliette Lewis for Secrets and Lies? Saorise Ronan for Stockholm Pennsylvania? Or Frances O’Connor for The Missing.
The big names don’t stop there. There’s also Anna Gunn for Gracepoint, Nicole Kidman for Grace Of Monaco, Christina Ricci for The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, Octavia Spencer for Red Band Society, and Helena Bonham Carter for Worricker. And while she’s not a big name, Yaya DaCosta did portray Whitney.
I’d nominate McDormand, Latifah, Gyllenhaal, Lange, and Lewis.
