The Small Screen Diaries: 09/26/26

Since it’s Sunday morning, let’s start by looking at a couple of shows coming up this week that you may be interested in. From what I can tell, one of the biggest premieres is War, the new HBO Max legal drama starring Dominic West and Sienna Miller, which has a lot of buzz around it and drops on Thursday. That’s the same day as East of Eden, Zoe Kazan’s new adaptation starring Florence Pugh, which premieres on Netflix. We also have some returning favorites this week, including Scrubs on ABC, plus the Animation Domination block with The Simpsons, Grimsburg and … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 09/26/26

I’m still trapped in my own personal hell, so welcome back to Reinventing the Small Screen Diaries for the time being. I tried to watch some things today, and while my attention span wasn’t always willing to cooperate, I did manage to bounce among four very different shows. First up was the new Netflix series My Brilliant Career, which follows Sybylla Melvyn, a young Australian woman who wants to become a writer and has absolutely no interest in getting married. She doesn’t necessarily want to leave her family behind either, but they’re poor, have too many children to support, and … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 09/08/26

Plus, Ted got to hang with Henry for a smidge, the whole reason he left to begin with. Ted Lasso is slowly finding its feet. Will it ever be as good as it once was? Probably not, though I like this reboot of … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 08/19/26

I do have every intention of doing a season review because I’m a big fan, but I’m deeply disappointed that Disney cut the budget on Deluxe, forcing them to use a synthetic narrator for one of their branded shows. It’s already entering pre-production on Season 4, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 08/12/26

Once again I’m running down the sixty shows on my broad watchlist. Joining the list this week, which was fairly slow for new shows, are The Sandman (Netflix), All Of Us Are Dead (Netflix), The Office (Peacock), Such Brave Girls (Hulu), Nautilus (AMC Plus), Dexter (Paramount Plus), and Prison Break (Netflix). I wrapped some shows, and anything that would rank outside the top 60 dies. WINNER: Squid Game (Netflix) with audio description- I knew I was going to lose my favorites. The Apology

John Stark

Where I Watched It: AMC Plus English Audio Description?: no Another film I’m struggling to remember as I catch up from the barrage of films i watched over Christmas break. It was… a lot. Like, a lot. This is actually loosely a Christmas film, as our lead character (Anna Gunn) is visited by someone from her past with some unnerving news. Most of this film is just two people, although Janeane Garofalo appears in a supporting turn, in case you wondered whatever happened to her. Remember how Hard Candy was basically Ellen (now Elliot) Page and Patrick Wilson, but then … Continue reading The Apology

Honestly? I didn’t watch the Emmy’s tonight. I’ve lost all hope that the Emmy voters have any idea who to vote for. The nominations are silly. And, oh look, Breaking Bad swept the drama category. Oh, hey, Modern Family won… again. Breaking Bad has already won the Emmy for Best Drama series (last year). Anna Gunn won last year. Aaron Paul won two years ago. He won the year before that. Bryan Cranston won that year too. Cranston also won in 2009, and 2008. Bryan Cranston has now won 4 Emmys for playing Walter White, Aaron Paul has won three, … Continue reading Emmy Winners
