Emmy Predictions: Comedy Supporting Actor/Actress

Supporting Actor:
THE CONTENDERS:
Alec Baldwin (Saturday Night Live)
Tony Hale (Veep)
Timothy Simons (Veep)
Matt Walsh (Veep)
Louie Anderson (Baskets)
Tituss Burgess (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)
Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta)
LaKeith Stanfield (Atlanta)
Ty Burrell (Modern Family)
Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family)

SHOULDA BEEN CONTENDERS:
Andre Braugher (Brooklyn Nine Nine)
Laurence Fishburne (Black-ish)
William Jackson Harper (The Good Place)
TJ Miller (Silicon Valley)
Tracy Letts (Divorce)

So, Baldwin could get a nomination without actually being an official cast member of SNL. His frequent appearances as Donald Trump have pushed him out of the Guest Actor category and into Supporting. It’s pretty amazing. I think he’s a lock, along with probably at least Hale (and maybe Simons) from Veep, Anderson, and at least Henry from Atlanta. I think Burgess gets snubbed this year.

My Predictions: Baldwin, Hale, Anderson, Henry, Simons

Supporting Actress:
THE CONTENDERS
Kate McKinnon (SNL)
Leslie Jones (SNL)
Anna Chlumsky (Veep)
Judith Light (Transparent)
Gaby Hoffman (Transparent)
Jane Krakoswki (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)
Rita Moreno (One Day At A Time)
Andrea Martin (Good News)
Zazie Beetz (Atlanta)
Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory)

SHOULDA BEEN CONTENDERS:
Molly Shannon (Divorce)
D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place)
Carol Kane (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt)
Kathryn Hahn (Transparent)
Yvonne Orji (Insecure)

McKinnon is the closest thing to a lock this category has. She just dominates SNL right now. I think Leslie Jones has a shot, but she has to beat a lot of well respected actresses. The fact that Rita Moreno is even on this list has a lot to do with her caliber. The big question is, did enouogh voters watch One Day At A Time or Good News to get Moreno or Martin a nomination? Another question: If Atlanta sweeps this year, can Zazie Beetz sneak in?

My Predictions: McKinnon, Chlumsky, Light, Beetz, Krakowski
